What modern psychology would consider to be “good” is, I suspect, some kind of peak average everydayness where Dasein feels fully at home. I suspect this is why my non-philosopher friends tend to say things like “all the philosophy will make you go mad”. It does the opposite, of course.

This, at the start of The Fundamental Concepts of Metaphysics is rather funny but seems out of character for Heidegger. Maybe he’d just had a particularly strong coffee.

I wrote my MA dissertation on the hard problem of consciousness, but now, after two years of studying Heidegger for my MRes, I can no longer understand what the problem is. It’s like my brain has rewired itself.
