In addition to many other important programs, IU Bloomington is eliminating its Folklore and Ethnomusicology Department, one of the most storied and successful in the country.

In a last-minute edit, IN legislators pushed through a budget bill that gives the governor sole appointing power of the IU trustees, makes the faculty board just an advisory body, and adds "diploma mill" requirements to tenured faculty. Academic freedom is in peril.
