EXPERIMENT: I'm working to become a full-time storyteller & sharing my progress on social media. Starting where I am now, scratch!
Non political
I really have no idea what I am doing when editing. I have some amazing friends who I’m so appreciative of for their guidance, but this is definitely an area I need to improve in. Was completely blindsided by how much work & learning is required to edit properly.
Learning experience for sure

Just got my book cover finalized for “Scenes From Her Life” and WOW! I’m in love! Super duper hype. Can’t wait to share when the short story goes live.

Shooting for an early October release. But with this being my first one, I want to keep in mind that the process may take longer.

This short story is like my baby. I’ve been carrying it around for 9 months, and I’m desperately wanting to just get it out XD

What I mean is I have dabbled in filmmaking & game design. I got fatigued by the number of different hats you had to wear & all the intricacies you had to learn.

I thought writing would only require one hat, but no, it needs many just like the visual mediums, as well as being quite intricate.
I’m genuinely surprised how many different facets you have to learn as a writer. Even when you’re just doing e-books. From concepting, prose, the different types of editing, etc. It’s deep.

I thought this would be more straightforward than filmmaking. But kinda not really? At least starting out.

TBF: This statement is about as controversial as most “hot takes” you see on the internet lol

Hot take: I hate it when life and work get in the way of creating something or having fun…

Probably for this reason XD

Draft 3 of my horror short story is complete. Now, time to send it off to editors & get feedback!

Here's the logline as promised: After receiving a Dear John letter, a workaholic theater director is forced to perform in a supernatural play about the woman he has wronged.

How do you make stories that matter?

I have tons of neat concepts, but struggle to come up with solid themes or a real meaning behind any of it. How do you make a story from a theme or make your existing concept meaningful?

Ayo, someone wrote a book about me?

Pathetic sad malewives rise up!

Are you a linear writer or a non-linear writer?

For me, I found I’m non-linear. I write the most important scene first. And when writing that scene, I learn so much more about what my story really means & the path the characters need to take than any amount of planning can do!

You have to Google some weird shit as a writer XD

What’s the weirdest thing you had to Google for a book or script?

Just finished draft 2 of my short story. So relieved progress is being made. Still got more work to do, but I’m seeing an end in the near(ish) future.

I think I have nailed down a title now: Scenes from her Life

I’ll post the logline when I finish draft 3!

Try setting up a feed dedicated to it. Or see if one already exists. The best thing about Bluesky is you can customize what the app shows you.

Love horror! Curious to hear what it’s about (if you’re comfortable sharing ofc).

When I’m not procrastinating I’m working on a little horror story inspired by A Christmas Carol (which tells you how long I have been procrastinating lol).

It’s kinda like if Scrooge was forced to act in A Christmas Carol. Might become my first published work. Unless a new shiny idea distracts me

Depending on your taste, maybe “Woe to the Wicked” loosely inspired by Matthew 26:23-25?

Another idea could be “The Pale Horse.” That’s more in reference to the apocalypse, but could be an interesting motif/symbol to play with. Kinda used to showcase dread? Keep writing and a title will come!

Just came across this when out for a walk. Honestly, I get why it’s there, but it feels a little… Dystopian? Like it being illegal to sit somewhere or touch something outside. It’s got my writer brain churning for story ideas XD

Do you have a log like or elevator pitch you feel comfortable sharing?
I also see lots of great titles which are quotes of the dialogue, so is there anything succinct your characters say that could be intriguing & capture the main vibe well?

Anyone else have like a physical feel of tension when you aren't able to continue working on a project? Like you're unknowingly holding your breath or something?

Yesterday, I read a poem which referred to a telescope as a

'sight-invigorating tube'

I think this is delightful and want to see a similar approach used to name other items.

A cup might be a 'drink-bequeathing receptacle'
A brush could be a 'hair-enrapturing hedgehog.'

Feel free to jump in.
