Previews, reviews, and playthroughs of soloable board games both new and old (though to be honest, mostly new...)
Very exciting mail day today!

Finally got to try @thunderworksgames.bsky.social Citizens of the Spark today, getting a few solo plays in. Really enjoy the twist on card drafting, and all of the different ways the cards are used to interact with the game. Solo plays pretty well too! Looking forward to trying more card sets!

Finally, I finished off the day with my first game of the solo hand management game, Adamastor! Have heard how hard this one is, and maybe it was beginner's luck, but with a nice combination of skills, I managed to make it to the end!

Next up was a few plays of the prototype of Astro ROVE, the newest iteration of @buttonshy.bsky.social ROVE. Just like aqua, the movement has been moved to the action cards, but now so have the abilities. In their place, the modules now have the ability to turn into other modules!

Fun day of little games today. Started off with a couple plays of the chill roll and write game Daydream. Not sure this one has staying power, aside from possibly using it in my after school class, but it's a nice cozy game. Interested to try out the other board combinations.

Planning on introducing my students to bag building in my class this week, so finally got ぬくみ温泉開拓記 (Nukimi Onsen Kaitakuki) to the table, trying out the solo mode! Definitely prefer this to Hanjouki, it feels like the quicker, lighter brother of Orleans, which makes it very good in my book!

Got some fun new review stuff in today!

Got A Wild Venture to the table today for my first solo play. AI in this one doesn't do a ton and doesn't get in the way too much, but wow is it challenging. Got taken out 57-50 by the easy bot, but had quite a bit of fun with it!

New review copy from @ospreygames.bsky.social, the flip and write castle builder, Flip Pick Towers! Wasn't sure I needed another flip and write game when I requested this one, but just sat down to play a solo game of it, and have to say I'm glad I did. There's a lot of fun in this one!

Played my first multiplayer game of HamFarm with my son, using the playmat and some of the extra upgrades that came in the last expansion as well. The game is very simple, and probably a bit too long for what it is, but it's a pretty fun one.

Also got in some games of the upcoming tricktaker, Elevation, in prep for a preview video I'm hoping to record tomorrow!
February 6, 2026 at 3:25 AM
Played a bunch of solo games of Bested Another Time today. Not a whole lot going on in the solo, but it plays in like 10 minutes and is a pretty fun puzzle! Can't wait to try the multiplayer game as well!

Huge surprise arrival today, had no idea this was coming already. Very, very excited to dig into this one!

Finally got a chance to try out Little Town Builders with my son today. Might be a bit beyond him as far as strategy goes, but I enjoyed the interesting combination of worker placement and tile laying.

And as the finale to an awesome week of gaming, we did a three player game of Knitting Circle. Have generally been a big fan of the @alderaceg.bsky.social / @flatoutgames.bsky.social puzzly tile laying games, and this is no exception. Actually ended up enjoying this one more than I expected to.

For the final day of exam week gamerama, we started with a two player game of Galactic Cruise! Been dying to get this one back to the table and was happy to finally be able to play it multiplayer as well! Still loving this one quite a bit!

Followed Almighty up with my first multiplayer game of How to Save a World (expect my solo video tomorrow!), another one I'm really enjoying. Worker placement with card play, tech upgrades, and something like lane battling on tracks all of which combos together in interesting ways.

Day 3 of exam week gameathon, started with my first multiplayer game of the upcoming game Almighty, from Keen Bean Studio. Really digging the twist on area control in this, with the ability to build huge combo turns, plus the asymmetric player characters, and even better with more players!
