I found the header image above in my Lightroom as I was searching for something to inspire me this morning. I took it earlier this year on a toy camera I bought for $25 on Amazon. It's called the CHUZHAO Vintage Mini Digital Camera, and you can see it in the picture below. It's fun a little camera, and it takes decent pictures.

I entertained the notion of rejoining social media yesterday afternoon. It lasted for about twenty minutes. Hashtags and keywords don't interest me. I recoil at the notion of being advertised to every second of my online experience. The memes and the trends and the derivativeness of it all feels empty and uninteresting. No, social media just isn't a place for me at this moment in my life, and that has to be okay…with me and with everyone else.

This morning I woke up to the announcement of a new Florence & The Machine album. Pre-ordered faster than my fingers could hit "check out." The title, Everybody Scream, had a visceral effect on me. Yes! my body cried. Every body SCREAM. I have struggled with this blog since I created it, just generally not experiencing the release I wanted to feel in and from it.

Baking banana muffins, roasting a ton of garlic, and making borscht today. Mondays are my favorite day of the week, the day I feel most like myself. I don't know, it's something in the air, a Mary Poppins meets Hecate vibe that's easy for me to access. I often don't write a lot of new words on Mondays, but I do fill my creative bucket so that I can write the words the rest of the days.

Notes on a practice: In one of the journals I keep, I create poems or from text I've pulled from somewhere, often from the pages of The Paris Review (which I subscribe to, so I get the hard copy). I enjoy this process for a few reasons. First, it makes use of the journal after I've read it. Second, I like the constraint that comes from needing to make something new out of the words or images already available to me.

I've been reading about hope as an existential practice, about Albert Camus's notion of the absurd, and I've been rolling that around with my reading of Simon Critchley's, On Mysticism. I'm not ready to formulate coherent thoughts around the convergence of those ideas yet, but something about my toiling in them made my think about an experience I had last spring that led me, ultimately, to me typing this entry to you today.
