workshopping 80s car dealership ad music as in-game store BGM (not the music itself but in that style)

it would be surely unthinkable if an up-and-coming social media thing shot itself in the foot before it could really take off, but nonetheless I added my mastodon to my bio so people can find me (if they want)

One of my favourite bits of SMT V is finding vending machines in the weirdest places which is some of the energy I want to bring as well

the only show/narrative work I've ever accurately predicted plot development for was Riverdale so idk what that says about me

it's cool to theorycraft but getting super invested in your predictions being right might possibly mean you're not really into the work and just want to prove you are the best at media literacy, which might be misplaced priorities. Might not be a bad idea to instead sit back and enjoy the ride

Finally it's safe to like jrpgs and turn-based combat again! -- Every year since Dragon Quest I

the urge has been growing for me to just put boom-bap drums all over the OST

my game is postponed until C-Jam Blues is in the public domain

apparently I was not the only person who thought Big Shiny Tunes 2 was the best of the bunch as it's apparently the fourth-best selling album in Canadian history as of 2020

I'd eschew game balance for storytelling, no question whatsoever

obsidian finally gives me a place to write down all the presets I've used and loved in my comically large number of VSTs
August 25, 2025 at 11:21 AM
Plus with Obsidian I found extensions for math and music formatting so I can keep track of motifs and mechanic formulas a lot more easily
August 17, 2025 at 5:54 PM
game stuff is still happening here, just slowly. I've been porting all my Game Design stuff to Obsidian since I like the linking and I spend less time fighting formatting. Having an organized structure helps me get stuff down but if I take too much time making it work it's a delicate balance

Obsidian has allowed me to unleash the sicko within

Basically the less grounded they are, the better.

TIL there is actually a term for a specific kind of 80s subgenre of movie I love, Saving the Orphanage. A key component to making this genre work is the method of raising money to defeat the evil land developer absolutely must be outlandish. Breakdance, regatta, skiing, something off-the-wall.

took me entirely too long to finish this up, most of the trouble seems to have been the front

where are the games that are love letters to Secret of the Stars or the first Breath of Fire?
May 15, 2025 at 12:09 PM
"Chrono Trigger Is More Than A Game" buddy why is being a game so bad? Just tired of the "a game has to be compared to a movie to be legitimate" mentality, that's how we get hours of cutscenes in what's supposed to be an interactive experience.

This is as much to myself as anyone else but if you're looking for a melody for a theme you don't need to overthink it, a once-beloved HBO show has one that's literally just ascending a scale in quarter notes

My proposal (which I don't claim is original because I'm sure someone has said the same thing somehwere) - for things that seem to be inspired by an older generation of games but don't look exactly like them (like what I'm making), I propose "retro-like" or "retro-lite".

remembering the gaming magazine ads that shat on the pixel art of Symphony of the Night to big-up Castlevania 64 instead and having a sensible chuckle

I could probably use more screenshots

There was supposedly a jrpg nadir in the 2000s but like FFX, Nocturne, Persona 3 all came out in that decade so probably not
