The mortality rate of H5N1 influenza in cats ranges from 50-100%.

Cats, like birds, have high levels of the specific receptor this flu strain attaches to: α2,3-linked (SAα2,3) sialic acid receptor.

The biggest source of H5N1 in cats? Raw pet food.
