It's always annoying when people think that the target demographic of the mag 100% controls the target audience of a specific series... And also that the target audience are the only people who can like a series. It's really just saying "blue is for boys and pink is for girls" again.

I feel like it's probably something to do with a mistaken belief that "written words(subs) should be wooden", where "all the flow and favor come from the tone/tempo it is said in". They don't read enough to know that the writing itself can read well.

I sometimes wonder if they are doing it more so because they don't want to translate it accurately

Mappa is in no way tied to seinen lol, their first adaption was Josei(Kids On The Slope). Most of their adaptions since have been shounen, with a rare shoujo or seinen.

(a good chunk of English speakers would never even think to call Bloom Into You a shounen, and there are strong contingents wouldn't consider anything outside of the Battle Shounen genre shounen)

It's arguably none of them, as it's not being published in any of the magazines the terms described(though there's arguments the terms have developed past that point, especially if you're speaking English and not Japanese)

Ah yeah, there's definitely reasons the main character wouldn't feel more comfortable being more explicit, as it's the ex-Emperor and his son is the current Emperor.

My understanding is that it's often something you just wouldn't include, based on the actual English and Japanese speaking patterns. And if it is being translated to show surprise... "this is..." is still not how English speakers would phrase it.

hm, I see. I guess we had slightly different definitions of orange/blue morality then, because I didn't think it being understood is an issue to preventing it from counting as that.

While I'd agree with most of this video, I'm curious what makes you think Frieren ever claims the demons are Amoral? I felt like the story was clear from the beginning that they are a case of Blue/Orange morality(which still has all the issues with biological essentialism, to be clear)

It definitely reads as something that was put in because "sex sells" and thankfully was resisted after the initial scene.
