The historical cognate for what is happening in the United States right now is the period known as the Redemption. And the restoration of Confederate iconography, just like when they were originally installed, is to signal to the nation the return of white power.
The Trump administration is on a pro-Confederacy roll, with two monuments brought back in 24 hours. The "Confederate Memorial," its name since its construction in 1914, will be reinstalled in Arlington Cemetery.

2/27/2025 To close out our observation of Black History Month, Rivers hosted Speaker Dr. Zebulon Miletsky, an associate professor in Africana Studies & History at Stony Brook University, to present at all-school assembly on February 24 and visit Grade 8 humanities classrooms. Miletsky supplemented additional month-long programming by student leaders of the SHADES affinity group surrounding the theme of Black Excellence.

2024 was filled with many blessings… one of the things I’m most proud about is having been invited to speak at the Boston Latin school. I didn’t attend Latin… in fact I had never seen the inside of it. But, anyone from Boston will know why this was so important. Thank you BLS for the invite.
