It's a pity that the click economy makes you write headlines that would make a student of journalism fail the exam.

Not optimizing is the ultimate optimization.
I do not claim to know why we are on this planet, but I am very certain we are not born to start a mission where we optimize every single little thing in our lives.

I think it's just not good for the spirit.

If you are having trouble understanding what's up with memes and the assassination of Charlie Kirk, this 8min video does a good job of explaining it:

Not an artifact. They are all centered around Febreze Air spray cans.
Got this question over email…anyone know why these perfect circles appear on air quality maps? Must be an artifact of some kind, right?

It's a growing fitness trend. People say wearing a weighted vest when you exercise builds bones, strengthens muscles and improves cardiovascular health. But does research back up these claims?

They say entropy went up like crazy.
From my exhaustive historical researches I have concluded that the Thirty Years' War was bad.
I am writing about thermodynamics for a book and a quick check on the origin of vacuum pumps has me on a deep Wikipedia dive into the Thirty Years' War. Writing is basically an impossible task.

The cuts to scientific research, medicine, and foreign aid have nothing to do with saving money.
The motives are ideological, and we all know which family of ideologies drives them.
No money was actually saved, but at the same time we had truly devastating cuts to scientific research, medicine, and foreign aid. Just reinforces what a tiny fraction of spending those areas always were, with an outsized positive impact.
Of course it was.

DOGE fired a bunch of people while managing to save almost no money at all because Musk et al were primarily interested in performative cuts to fight the culture war. So taxpayers got a less efficient govt for the same price. But at least the libs were owned.

I’m wondering how Season 3 of the Frasier reboot will handle all of this Harvard drama?

A hell of a lot of folks are just now learning what happens when they vote without knowing anything. It won't lead them to educate themselves, because doing so would mean the loss of their identity.

Somebody needs to tell him that he'll never get Obama's Nobel Peace Prize for ending the war in Ukraine if he does so by siding with the aggressor.

The Nobel Committee should reach out and offer to sell him the prize for the price of helping kick Putin back to Russia.
Not a joke, @thedailybeast.bsky.social has a recording of Trump wanting to host the Kennedy Center's annual awards ceremony, which seems to be the true motive for his personal takeover of DC's performing arts center.

A bill to classify Trump Derangement Syndrome as a mental illness has just been introduced in the Minnesota Legislature.

If it were to pass, it would open the door to sending democracy activists to mental institutions—and who knows what other dystopian scenarios.
