Tardy to the party, but thrilled that Missouri has repealed its pay-to-stay law! In addition to being unjust and creating a hurdle to people's reentries after incarceration, these laws are ineffective. The costs of administration outweigh the fees collected.

My dad passed on April 3. He always loved reading the obituaries in the paper, so I tried to write the obit he would have wanted to read by capturing his sense of humor.

When I spoke at Matt's service in May, the only fitting way to end my speech was with a tearful "Go Birds!"

All the feels today. I'll be wrapped up in Matt's Eagles jacket cheering hard. GO BIRDS!!! 🦅💚

Last week, the Capital University Law Review held its first Works-in-Progress Symposium, which gave students the opportunity to present their work and receive feedback. It always delights me to see students explore their interests with intellectual curiosity and openness.

I like covering Homicide in October (spooky season) and Group Criminality just before the holidays (togetherness).

Intro: I'm a prof at Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio, teaching classes with "Crim" in the title. I write on punishment and have been focusing on monetary sanctions in the criminal system lately. I think about cycles of poverty and criminal punishment.
I love cats.
