Today the shower drain was unclogged, butterscotch bourbon banana bread was baked, the bed linens were washed, a shelf was hung, the toilet seat was tightened. Boyfriend cleaned and refilled the bird feeders. I vacuumed, did a general tidy. Feeling pretty okay about starting 2026.

I always fill in my planner for the next year in the week between Christmas and New Year's, but this year I am also filling out a wall calendar and trying to clean up some digital clutter. I know it doesn't always work out, but I think there's something wonderful about new year optimism.

Picked up Chinese food for dinner tonight and loved watching other people stream by the car with their own carryout bags. Tiny moments of lives intersecting and doing the same thing as other strangers in town on the same night. 🥡🎄

There are two ladies that walk together in the mornings. I've never seen them because I am still laying in bed at ~6:15 AM when they pass the house, but I can hear them talking and laughing, and it's just a nice way to start the morning.

The more loads of laundry I have to put away, the more genius I think my high school boyfriend's strategy of having all matching socks so he could just dump them into a drawer and always pull a matching pair truly is. 🧦

I've made soft boiled eggs on toast THREE times this week and not ONCE did I wash the knife after buttering the toast, forgetting I still have to cut the eggs in half. That's a new personal record.

With a game going this late, can a team send home their players that have been retired for the night? Do they have to stay for the whole thing? I mean, they can't come back into the game, and these guys play again at 5 PM tomorrow.

I'm going through & cleaning out my Instapaper account & I have things in here from 2014, which I'm horrified to note is more than a DECADE in the past. Also, really challenging my belief that the internet is forever. A lot of these links are dead & the Wayback Machine is only 50/50 on success.

It's been a couple years since I watched football (RIP Oakland Raiders), but it feels like the games this year have been... really good and fun to watch? And there's been lots of weird stuff going on with blocked field goals. GB@DAL has been great to watch tonight and I don't care about either team!
