Last night I forgot my real name. Someone called my name in the real world, but it sounded like the wrong word, like mispronunciation.

She knows tomorrow she’ll sit through another status meeting, nodding politely, typing numbers that don’t matter. But tonight, the echo of battle still rings in her bones.

The battle is over, the quest node dissolves into embers. In the reflection of a shop window, the giant orc heaves in sync with the small human frame beneath.

Throughout the centuries there have been various outbreaks of wraith possession. And it is significant, I think, that wherever Lore spreads, the assault of those evil powers upon our chosen avatars is kept in abeyance. Only Lore teaching has the ability to keep these manifestations under control.

“But when it comes to Lore we learn the truth. Here reality is set before us- the world as it really is. When we strip off all the illusion, we find it is exactly what the Lore records it to be. Here is where our perspectives are set straight, here is where our dreams become real.”

The Nu-Tropix lounge was all bioluminescent orchids and mirrored surfaces. The maître d' scanned our retinas with a device that made my optic implant spasm. Sarah's laugh tinkled like breaking glass as she ordered dishes that cost more than my liver.

Hailing from the khotec scene in Sai Gon, Carbon Phoenix layers local kho rhythms with Detroit techno era drums and wandering synth stabs. The sound owes as much to the rave revival period of CE110-115 as it does to the buzzing 24hr khotexa.

Since its 1987 release, Pak Nam-Gyu’s tech-noir Cyber Crash 2000 has earned a cult following among 20th-century completionists. The soundtrack—credited to little-known producer Lee Hae-Dong—is both dated analog schlock and a tense glimpse of the future.

They filed out into the dead air. The Hypnal fled like a truck leaving an abattoir. Conway knew the ritual. He turned his back, sending the drones ahead like mechanical ghosts, their scanners painting the hollow buildings.

In my office, I drag up fragments of memory, shapes of ideas and try to put them together. I flick through images of the victim sent by the pathologist. The AR lens places them around the room.

Conway pointed at the structure dominating the skyline, maybe five clicks north. "We're not sure, but it's in that mall. And it has something HQ wants." He let the silence hang for a beat, the rain hissing around them. "Here's a little surprise for you boys: this is an internal contract."

Kent climbed the cracked steps and waited for the city to forget him. His AR mantle shimmered into existence. Faint glyphs appeared, each one a shortcut to a spell he’d built from old city APIs and dead code. Above him a demonic figure began to form. Kent tapped the quest icon.

Ava kept seeing herself twice — once in glass, once in light. The reflection lagged by half a breath, a known glitch since the update. The Elvish temple ahead flickered as it loaded into view.

She didn’t look up when he passed. The hollows under her eyes were darker today, the skin stretched tighter over her cheekbones. A stain on her collar, pale pink. He pretended not to notice.

I didn’t answer. The mark was slumped in the corner, breathing shallow. Too shallow. I checked the pocket nurse attached to the mark: no alarms, but something was wrong. His pupils were fixed, unresponsive. Not sedated. Blank.

The subway was full of ghosts. Faces lit by the weak glow of AR lenses. The woman opposite sat strangely. Her lens flickered, her left iris freezing mid-blink, the pupil fuzzed with static and then dilated to an impossible pin-prick. AZ wanted to vomit.
