The mismanagement of the Dockyard is just as big a contributor to the South African Navy’s serviceability crisis as the low sustainment budget. It’s made an already extremely difficult fleet sustainment task almost impossible.

In 2022 South Africa’s Minister of Defence released Gripen lifetime flying hour data for the first time since 2013. At the time it went unnoticed.
I’ve compared it wjth the 2013 numbers, and a grim picture: Of 26 aircraft, 7 haven’t flown at all since 2013.
