[The first part of his answer is talking about the Democratic victories in last week's election - New York, Georgia, Virginia etc.] PB: The point is, for once every Dem you saw was talking about the right question, and the question was, what can we do using the pulleys and levers of government to make you better off on the biggest problems of your life, which right now have to do with the fact that it's unaffordable to be an American? And getting the question right is table stakes, but that's actually been a struggle for us sometimes - us, meaning my party. Host: Stay on that. What is wrong with your party? [audience laughs] PB: Well. [pause] Where do we begin. You know, i do think there was a sense that we were not asking the right questions or not offering answers to the right questions. I think that was largely, or partly unfair - Host: Were you actively asking the wrong questions? and obviously, I'm hinting at the basket of cultural issues which seemed only to turn off people. PB: We got sucked into an account of America that defined everything by identity at the expense of everything else. And what it meant was, you know, there were expressions in the Democratic party of all the matters si where you fit is based on your identity and therefore the only things we can do for you have to do with your identity. And it turns out that if you do it that way you can't stitch together a story that makes sense across the board. And you actually lose many people in the very identity groups you think you're talking to. Not because they are Latino, but because they are people, a lot of Latino voters said "why aren't you saying more about my economic future?" And you could say the same for Black voters, and you could say the same for young men, and a lot of other people who got away from us. So we don't need to water down our commitment to racial and economic justice as a party. We need to remember that all this ladders up into a big picture about what it's like to be an American, and to have a story about what it's like to be an American including making sure you can afford to get through everyday life. And what it means to be an American. Which directly challenges the JD Vance model that you're an American based on how many of your answers are in a Civil War cemetery. basically blood and soil nationalism. And say no, being American has to do with your fidelity to a creed that binds us together that explains why being American is different than being Belgian or Japanese. We're not just another country out there. We're a country that developed based on a commitment to democratic equality, the idea that everyone is created equal.

He’s also the only Democrat who threatened to withhold aid from the Netanyahu government.

Grossman was AIPAC president when Pete was in middle school. When Yitzhak Rabin was the Prime minister working on peace deals and autonomy for Palestinians. And got assassinated for it.
He later was DNC chair and his endorsement had nothing to do with Israel. The world was different in 1994 vs 2019.
