There is some extraordinary work here, so I'm very glad to have an art/text hybrid (small watercolour + tiny poem) in 'Time as Falling Atoms', an object of wild and complex beauty from Acropolis Journal. Many thanks to Louise Mather for the invitation, and for her sensitive and imaginative curation.
We are thrilled to publish our inaugural project TIME AS FALLING ATOMS. Thank you so much to all the wonderful writers and artists for being part of this!

How wonderful to see this by Junior Journalists celebrating the opening of the brand-new Benjamin Zephaniah Library at William Murdoch Primary School! After speeches students performed Zephaniah's poems aloud - good practice for taking part in the #PoetryByHeart competition! 📚✨

Thinking and writing about the function of beauty in poetry, I enjoyed this meditation from poet Dana Gioia. I particularly like his argument that the word 'beauty' needs rehabilitation; that it is something deeper and wilder, to be dissociated from mere ornamentation.

Embroiderer extraordinaire Jane Morris died on this day in 1914. Here's my @preraphaelitesoc.bsky.social poem celebrating the entire Morris family: William, Jane, and daughters, May and Jenny. I’ve hidden the names of several Thames-inspired Wm Morris designs within the poem. How many you can spot?!

I had a lovely chat with @sarahleavesley.bsky.social about art and poetry and her latest collection, 'Darling Blue'. Sarah is engaging and articulate, well worth the attention of your earholes.

A brilliant new poem – full of deliciously sly rhymes, an inescapable sense of unease, and thrillingly unexpected shifts – from Kathryn Maris, the best and most inspiring poetry teacher I have ever known.

Also: really decent production values from @ditheringchaps.bsky.social. Good quality paper, and each poem/illustration properly honoured with space to breathe on the page.
Hurrah, book post! Congratulations to Chris James (a great writer and also one of the nicest men in poetry) on publication of 'The Ice Sonnets', where the poet's pencil portrait of each man memorialised feels particularly tender. I'm looking forward to dipping in before Monday evening's launch.

I'm a bit of scared of big bridges (held up by a combination of engineering, magic and belief as they are) but behold my city looking lush, even in the rain. 🏙️💙

Despite having had a rotten winter flu bug thing, I managed loads of thesis writing over Christmas/new year, and have a complete draft for the first time. So today I treated myself to my first crafternoon of January – and made this silly bunch. 🦉

I've been utterly undone by Jenny Pagdin's THE SNOW GLOBE. Feverishly vivid writing and exquisite language, even in the poet's sensitive focus on postpartum psychosis. I'm particularly enamoured of the meteorological imagery here. Just WOW. From @ninearchespress.bsky.social, heartily recommended.

As the decorations get put away, so this old poem of mine comes out. A silly seasonal offering for #TwelfthNight, in which I invent a word for that very specific sadness we feel on seeing the space just lately vacated by our Christmas tree.

So much has happened lately, I'd almost forgotten that my poem 'On finding a cow's jawbone in my city garden' won 1st prize in the Kathryn Bevis Memorial prize back in May, and was published in 'The Alchemy Spoon'. Many thanks to lovely Catherine Redford for the reminder!

A thrill to receive Finished Creatures and see my poem 'Buddleia in the blood' in the company of many poets I admire. Jan Heritage's signature treasury tag envelope, and the thoughtful placement of a bookmark in each writer's page, is so classy. I can't wait to dive in! @finishedpoetry.bsky.social

Oh, this message. Starting off Sunday by blinking back a few tears. 😳 The power of poetry to make connections never fails to astound and inspire me. And of course, little Laika's story too... 💔
