So apparently, the US Gov, in their most recent series of dog whistles, are pulling LOTR references and are outright saying that their fascist reign of terror is akin to protecting the Shire. Absolutely fucking not. The comparison is a straightforward dogwhistle, don't let them confuse you.

I loved “Contact and Conflict in the Rohan-Dunland Borderland” by Erin Warford, examining the Dunlendings as a marginalized people trying to survive in the shadow of powerful groups through an exploration of their history in M-e and the effect they have on the borderlands.

I really enjoyed James Moffett’s “Entwined Fates: The Body and the Environment in Tolkien’s The Fall of Arthur and The Lay of Aotrou and Itroun” exploring the effect of the individual on the environment, and vice versa, through the lens of fate, loss, and redemption.
