Pledge Update: "Increase international visitors to UK to 50m by 2030"

ONS data released today shows a record 42.6m foreign visitors to the UK in 2024, beating the previous record in 2019 by 1.7m.

Those visitors spent £32.5bn, another record.

The asylum backlog continues to drop, with a net reduction of 12,000 asylum cases between the end of 2024 and end of March 2025 (90,686 in Dec 24 vs 78,745 in Mar 25)

The Government has 20 days to instigate a new mortgage guarantee scheme for first time buyers. The previous scheme, set up in 2021, is due to end on the 30th June 2025.

A commitment was made in Feb 2025, but no further details have been released.

Compromised pledge: "Restore the phase out date of ICE cars to 2030"

While the 2030 date has been restored for new ICE cars, by making exemptions for Hybrid and smaller manufacturers plus adjusting the ZEV Mandate, this pledge is now mostly, but not fully, met.

Currently working to verify the 'additional 2m appointments' that the Government claim they have met, but have no data on how many 'additional' appointments their plans created, nor what they are marking the 'extra' appts against. I think @fullfact.org might be similarly struggling on this point!
