In light of last night's news, I want to emphasize these two things.

We DO have political power, but only when we WORK DAMN HARD FOR IT. Get out. Join organizations. And do not stop now. Campaigning happens once, politics happens every damn day.

Be happy now. Your body, mind, and heart need that.

I am no longer employed so I'm not blogging Zohran tonight but I can just repeat exactly what I said in June :-)

he won on the back of a pro-migrant, pro-trans, pro-working class campaign. and also: Dem pundits are full of shit
The Democratic Party Needs to Learn from Zohran Mamdani's Guts and Backbone
Zohran Mamdani did something different, and it made all the difference.

It's actually insane that the feds are promising to put more than double the amount of money they're putting into childcare, into AI.

Why not just set it on fire and dance around it hoping to sway the gods to our favour?

The entire right-wing propaganda machine came after Zohran Mamdani.

The president and his allies came after him.

Democratic leaders, by and large, did not have his back until the last minute.

He still won, turning out historic numbers and inspiring young voters.

His politics can win anywhere.

Listening to the Ensemble Montréal candidate for Pierrefonds talk on CBC about PM not listening to constituents is tragically hilarious, their party was literally voted out 2 elections ago in part because of Coderre's attempt to force through that disaster of an electric racing event

Very early in the night for MTL municipal elections results, but sounds like Ensemble Montreal already has a substantial lead for mayor. Not surprising, but still... fuck. Soraya is the worst, and doesn't even live here (moving here in June absolutely doesn't count)

The one that still sticks with me is the woman who lost her dentures

Housing is a human right
We asked people who lived in homeless encampments that were cleared out in city “sweeps” to write about what object was the hardest for them to lose.

“They took my baby pictures and my moms obituaries,” a man in California wrote.

“I Have Lost Everything”: The Toll of Cities’ Homeless Sweeps
Cities often take belongings — including important documents and irreplaceable mementos — when they conduct sweeps of homeless encampments. ProPublica gave notecards to people across the country so th...

Hearing @mark-carney.bsky.social talking about "supporting" innovation is science is chilling; Harper-era changes to RCC funding policies directly prevented me from pursing a career in neuroscience. And this guy is a Harper-era conservative in a Liberal suit.

@ndp.ca take note. This is how you campaign for a progressive government

I think I have said this here before but one of the many things about this campaign that gives me hope is the focus on history. Also, behold the absolute demolishing of any notion that trans rights and the rights of the working class are somehow opposed or even distinct.
UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Trans people may only be like 1% of the population, but the percentage of people who love and support them is bigger. LGBTQ+ rights depend on solidarity and not throwing each other under the bus for acceptance from ppl who want us dead.

I'll never forget that Canada Post letter carries deferred their contract negotiation during the COVID-19 pandemic because the workers felt they had a responsibility to continue to LITERALLY CARRY CANADA'S ECONOMY ON THEIR BACKS

The way they are being treated as thanks for their service is SHAMEFUL
And Canada Post too!
Neither management team has negotiated in good faith. They both want the government to impose a settlement at the expense of the workers. That would also serve Poilievre’s desperate need to tarnish the government, another positive for the companies’ managements.

If cabinet is hoping the guy who wrote the fascist playbook will give advice on stopping fascism then we are in trouble.
Adorno reminds us that clever people were the first to be suckered by the fascist playbook because they thought they could outsmart it.
