There are 3 rules of ramen: make it simple, make it exciting, make it beautiful. Saiko Ramen, lurking among the food stalls at Sheffield's Cambridge Street Collective, has managed the impressive feat of breaking all three.

It took me too long to write about a Sheffield food spot but here’s my first local review: The Peacock at Owler Bar plateexpectations.uk/wrong-turn-r...
Wrong Turn, Right Meal: Finding Gold at the Peacock
Getting yourself lost sometimes leads to finding a new favourite meal spot. After a day buzzing around Chatsworth gardens with two increasingly hangry children, I botched the navigation home and misse...

I keep reflecting back on the keema pau from this picture and blog post. I will have another go at making it soon. I think they used ghee and not oil in the restaurant and cooked it for longer to get the buttery texture.
Dishoom: plateexpectations.uk/from-bombay-...

"NO ENTERING: KITCHEN" declares bold lettering, on the door of Dishoom's engine room. But I want to! Were I to breach this fortress, I'd uncover how they render keema so buttery it melts & what sorcery endows their house black daal with its smokiness.

Family Feasting Under Faux Flora: Ivy Asia Leeds
Easter: That chocolatey bank holiday foisted upon us Brits when the weather is still resolutely shit. Why couldn't they schedule it when we might actually enjoy a day off? Say, summer, when a trip to ...

A 30 word review about our dinner:

A visually magnificent beast, Aldi’s 30 quid wagyu tomahawk steak promises grandeur but delivers mere spectacle. Carefully smoked and seared, yet its excessive fat drowns the umami crescendo I craved.

What happened when one of my favourites descended from daring to dependable? plateexpectations.uk/le-bab-from-... A less positive article for my fifth blog post than the first four. #kebab #London #restaurant #lebab #grill #food #eatingout #foodie #foodsky
Le Bab's Evolution from Daring to Dependable
There's something genuinely sad about watching an excellent restaurant that you love become merely good. It's like watching a wild creative spirit settle for a comfortable path, trading boundary-pushi...

Just some snaps of my tea. I made teriyaki chicken on the Kamado! No blog post, just sharing the yum.

I needed an original image to demonstrate how I’ve been trying to replicate the Erbil kebab i described in this post: plateexpectations.uk/charcoal-and... so fired up the kamado and got cooking. Such hardship, such delicious hardship. #food

I hope it’s not too cliché for my fourth food blog post to be a thousand words which summarise to, “white carnivore man turns out to enjoy vegetables in Indian restaurant.” Alas, here it is anyway: plateexpectations.uk/keep-chaatin... #food #curry #london #restaurant
Keep Chaating made this carnivore eat his words
Many people, I regret to admit I’ve long been one of them, view vegetarian restaurants the way most Brits regard a wet bank holiday: something to be endured rather than enjoyed. My experiences with ve...
