Moonrise before Artemis

Tonight’s Full Moon rose just before the 5:01 PM sunset from behind the Olympic Stadium. The launch of Artemis II could happen a week from tonight. This could be the final Full Moon we’ll witness before humans make their return.

If it's clear where you are this weekend, highly recommend you try to watch the Full Moon rise over the horizon this weekend

This could be the last Full Moon you see before humans return to it, and I think you'll look at the Moon differently after Artemis II

Update from NASA this morning: earliest possible launch is now Sunday, February 8th

Note that this is the same day as the Super Bowl

Exactly 10 days from now — February 6 at 9:41 PM — the Artemis II launch window opens

In 10 days from now, humans could be on their way back to the Moon for the first time in over 53 years

Jeremy Hansen turns 50 years old today!

By coincidence, him and his family are in quarantine together leading up to the Artemis II launch to the Moon.

What a way to celebrate half a century.

Later this week, the Sun will start setting after 5:00 PM in Montréal

The Artemis II crew is now in a 14-day quarantine. But huge shout out to the backup crew: Jenni Gibbons and Andre Douglas

They also have to go into a 14-day quarantine, knowing they’re unlikely to fly on this mission

They get a lot less of the spotlight, but play a huge role. Props to them!

Big Artemis II milestone!

The crew is preparing to go into quarantine. This is a required, necessary step to launch.

And a possible sign that the February 6-11 launch window might hold!

The Moon rises in Montréal tonight (Fri, Jan 2) at 3:14 PM

Look to the northeast between 3:45 - 4:30 PM

You’ll see the Moon on a purple-pink backdrop of a sky. That’s Earth’s shadow being cast on our atmosphere.

Today – December 18th – we are exactly 50 days away from the opening of the Artemis II launch window.

In 50 days, these four astronauts could be in Earth's orbit and on their way out to the Moon.
