Famine is Boils' delivery and errand guy. He didn't work on a schedule though, and had gone on monthslong pilgrimages often. Those periods shortened so he can do his part in caring for Hyve.
When Hyve's homesickness didn't hurt as much anymore, they took their chances at reciprocating that care.
Famine walks down the streets of Baldur's Gate with a basket of bread. His arrival in the apothecary is automatically signaled by a bell. Hyve: Famine! Welcome back, sir. Famine: Hyve! Fronting the shop today? Hyve: Yup. Dr Boils is downstairs extracting his own venom. A panel shows wildshaped Boils as a snake. His fangs pierce the fabric lid of a jar that's collecting his snake venom. Famine: Don’t tell that to the customers. Famine offers his bread basket: Have you eaten breakfast yet? Upstairs, Famine rummages through what should've been the kitchen counter. Famine: Where did Boils leave the coffee this time? Hyve: It’s on his study sir. He stayed up all week. Hyve grabs a bun and eyes Famine’s worn coat hanging on his chair. Hyve: Uhm... would you like me to mend your coat, sir? I read up on sewing techniques - on fabric, I swear. I could hem and patch.. I promise it won’t look ugly. Famine: Oh? Haha… I don’t need it to look pretty either. If you can make it last a few more ventures, then sure. Hyve: I-I’ll do my best! It’ll be ready before the next time you go.

Boils used to buy new clothes for Hyve. Eventually, Hyve didn't want to impose when they could repurpose old fabric that would get stained or burnt off anyway. While Boils approved of the resourcefulness, Famine didn't understand their fashion sense.
Famine: Hyve, what are you wearing? Hyve: My shirt was getting short so I extended it. An arrow points out how they wear their apron: Apron skewed to the side to add personality. Famine to Boils: Shopping money, now. Hyve: It's ok, really. It's just clothes.

Living with Dr Boils was a cycle of testing safe treatments or routines, then repeating one that works until their dark urges fight back. What he didn’t figure out was that Hyve’s not a garden-variety bhaalspawn.
Dr. Boils as he cures himself from a stab wound: These attempts on my life are getting out of hand. What if Dr Boils taught Hyve how to wildshape and why it's a bad idea.
Hyve, wildshaped as a tiny bird, is struggling to fly up while dangling Dr. Boils who is wildshaped as a rat. "Higher child. To the top shelf!" Hyve's bhaalspawn instincts kicks in while wildshaped as a bird. They chirp "Murder, murder, murder" while poking at an annoyed Dr. Boils. "Stop that." Having enough, Dr. Boils wildshapes into a penguin dad to squish Hyve. Famine: Did you teach them how to turn back? Boils: Nope, bhaalspawn problem solved! Boils and Famine needed a reason to not give Hyve up to more responsible organizations like Candlekeep. Both of them escaped a cult years ago and have a distrust for magical and religious organizations. Aside from those and barber surgeons, they're fine with other magic-using individuals.
Boils: Take her to Candlekeep or the Harpers, if you find them. They’d know what to do with a bhaalspawn. Famine: Exploit her is what they’ll do. Boils: Unless you’d like to take her on your travels. Teach her how you overcame your demons.

Baldur's Gate 3 fan comic. Aldiirn skips through the crowded foyer of Moonrise Towers, giddy at having gotten away with telling off a Lolth-sworn woman. "We've lost him," Astarion gestures, "Aldiirn is cackling to himself." "Let me have this! You'd take a jab at Cazador given the chance." "I'd take it further and gut him through and through!" Astarion sneers. Aldiirn's cheer isn't dampened as he grins back. "It doesn't always have to be so direct. We could set Araj up for the next audience with Ketheric and watch the show. Or her sanguineous arts could prove useful to us. Never light away an opportunity too early..." Aldiirn trails off as he spots a tall hooded figure, dark as shadows, amongst all the drow cultists. With a hand Aldiirn signals for the party to stop. "What?" questions Astarion. "That drow." "Which drow?" Astarion's words begin to muffle as the hooded figure turns around, red hair spilling from under the hood, gold glinting on the bridge of a sharp nose. Shocking red hair, golden domino mask - the unmistakable visage of of the Lord of Shadows, Vhaeraun, staring down Aldiirn, calling for silence, and to listen. Through the chatter and hub-bub, Aldiirn hears it. A deep, distant beat, like that of a giant beast's heart, and the slithering noises of something wet and fleshy within the tower's stone wall. Pleased that Aldiirn has caught on, Vhaeraun points to the shadowed ceiling of the tower.

Boils (offscreen): Years ago, Kelemvor priests were urgently summoned to perform last rites for a pair of mutilated children. It was an effort to save their souls from whichever evil they were sacrificed to. The priests inquired the parents about the murderer. It was their adopted child, locked Away until they figure out what to do with her. The markings on the victims made it trivial for the temple to conclude they were dealing with a bhaalspawn. A young one at that, practically an infant. Redeemable if they introduce her to a life of prayer and duty. And unknowingly, access to their forbidden archives. Whether they were acting on Kelemvor's behalf to correct Jergal's mistake, or they saw themselves as the next Gorion, is beyond me. Boils (offscreen): The dead clerics I interviewed all said it's the former. A guy named Famine (offscreen): And what about the rest of the temple? Boils in the present day: Enforced my ban from their sacred grounds. Famine: Still unabsolved it seems... Are they looking for her? Boils: No knock on my door yet but it's only a matter of time. She left them quite the mess. A dark devil-eyed child with a knife? Loitering near a doctor who’s cited in the temple's list of heathens? That's why I need you to take her far away. Famine: What, me?!

Baldur's Gate 3 fan comic. True Soul Z'rell activates her psionic abilities to connect to the tadpole in Aldiirn's head. "You came here to answer the Absolute's Call," she says with a confident grin, "Let's see what you're made of." Aldiirn finds himself in a pickle - Z'rell could easily discover that he's not really a True Soul and bring all of Moonrise down on his party. He grimaces, for his only hope is to distract her with his lusts for Astarion. Aldiirn stalwartly faces Z'rell as if he was facing a firing squad, imagining walking side by side with Astarion... reaching for his hand, intertwining fingers, clasping each other... in public. Gale and Hyve are both in meditation poses. While it comes natural to Gale, Hyve is plagued by dark thoughts, preventing peace. Gale: "One with The Weave." Open your mind to her embrace. Let her cloak you in its peace... Gale: You're safe... Hyve opens one eye to peak beyond Gale's shoulders. They see Astarion lounging with a book infront of his tent. Astarion notices he's being stared at which makes Hyve blush. He smiles back and Hyve relaxes. But Astarion breaks that tenderness by making a lewd gesture that suggests cunnilingus. Hyve looks away embarassed. The gesture reminds Hyve of a steamy night with Astarion. Gale: Still connected, Hyve... Still connected. Gale stands up: Istheroastdoneporking... I mean is the pork done roasting? The text "Concentration Broken" floats above Hyve as they die of cringe.
