It's bittersweet being back at my desk after six weeks of paternity leave. While I'm looking forward to the upcoming semester and further developing projects from 2024, it's been an absolute joy to have so much time dedicated purely to my son, wife and dogs. Here's to family in 2025 x

Not sure if writing an 8-point to-do list is a good way to end the week, but such is life when prepping for paternity leave at the end of a very busy semester. Happy Friday, all!

Starting the week planning a class on queer approaches in translation studies, which is a lovely excuse to discuss brat, digital remix culture and breaking down hegemonic power systems/heteronormative binaries of various kinds. Happy Monday, all!

Lovely to see so many old and new faces on this app now - it's been a bit quiet for the last year, but hoping we can build something good!

Today's teaching: Gender and feminist approaches in translation with my final year theory module, followed by sentence-level meaning in my first-year linguistics module. Nice to have such varied topics in the same day and interesting to draw links between the two

Proofing my upcoming edited volume on visibility and genuinely not sure how some of these little errors made it through. It's normal right? I'm not just a bad editor? 😅

Submitted my first "proper" funding bid yesterday (ie not an ECR fellowship). I know how competitive the funding landscape is (and in some cases an actual, literal lottery), but it feels like a little professional milestone regardless of outcome!
