I say we embrace My immortal as canon because it disregards the og Canon to a hilarious extent, and also doesn't financially support her cuz its fanfiction.
the refusal to let go of Harry Potter can be explained in part to how completely tied it is to British imperial nostalgia. the series is basically set in a parallel Britain where things never culturally or technologically evolved beyond the fifties, when Britain wasn't quite a dead empire yet.
