I write a lot about miserable game development stories, so it sure was a pleasure to hear that one of the reasons Silksong took so long was that Team Cherry is having too much fun making it and didn't want to stop

Void Breaker is a game I've never heard of that just dropped out of nowhere on Game Pass. Roguelike shooter with beautiful visuals and incredible movement that runs like a dream. Sick as hell. #voidbreaker

I didn't realize it had gotten to this level. We are in a new world.

Decided to check out Immortals of Aveum on whim because it was on Game Pass. Either A) the game gets much worse, B) it's been patched to hell and back, or C) it's one of the most underrated games I've seen in a while.

No, *you're* old.
10 years ago today, Rocket League arrived out of nowhere to take the world by storm thanks to its ingenious blend of soccer and racing. Over the years, the game has been bolstered with numerous new modes, cars, and even has its own eSports tournament.

Layoffs aside, which are pure bullshit of course, it's wild that they cancelled Perfect Dark. A lot of the other games here make sense, they've been spinning their wheels for years, but the Perfect Dark vertical slice they showed off a while back seemed very promising and had a great reception.
Microsoft laid off thousands of employees today, including within its gaming division. As part of these cuts, Xbox has closed its first-party studio, The Initiative, and canceled various in-development games, including Perfect Dark and Everwild. www.gameinformer.com/2025/07/02/m...

Doom the Dark Ages is such an incredible achievement. The tech, the art, the level design, the combat design, the weapons; it all comes together so seamlessly and cohesively to make you feel amazing. It might be my favorite fps since Half Life 2.

Why One Indie Studio Is Reacting To Economic Uncertainty By Lowering Its Prices – Instead Of Raising Them, Like Everyone Else - Aftermath
While many are raising prices and others are waiting to see exactly how the chips fall, Hamburg-based Rockfish Games, the studio behind Everspace 2, decided to lower – not raise – the price of upcomin...

It's clear that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a mind blowing game, for many reasons, and I'm very much not alone in thinking that. That said, what's up with the horrible lip sync?

So far, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a stutter-free UE5 game with no pre-compilation step.... GOTY.

Classy. Well played Bethesda.

It's wild to me that even in a game that is arguably all about exploration and walking around like Oblivion, Unreal Engine still has traversal stutters. It's become so common that I'm actually starting to expect it and just subconsciously ignoring it at this point. It's sad. #Unreal #UE5 #Oblivion

It's super weird that devs/publishers keep labeling games that are clearly remakes as remasters.

I think Blue Prince has been overhyped (not overrated mind you). The way people talk about doesn't really jive with first impressions and might push some people away. Personally, I think if someone had mentioned to me that it was similar to The Witness that would have been all I needed to hear.

South of Midnight has some relatively simple and straight forward mechanics, but it's a jaw droppingly beautiful game in many different ways. Interesting characters, touching stories, and absolutely stunning art direction and music.

Finally getting around to Indiana Jones Great Circle. I think it's probably one of the most thoughtful, well designed big budget games ever made, incredibly faithful to the IP. It's highly likely the release date didn't do it any favors, as I think it had a good chance to win many GOTY awards.

Assuming the 3D Mario Team developed Donkey Kong Bananza, it's kind of a massive risk for Nintendo.

Super Mario Odyssey sold over 25m units. 3D Mario games sell very well overall.

We really have no idea how a 3D Donkey Kong will sell even if it's incredible.

My hype for the Switch 2 launch is easily among the lowest it's ever been for any console ever (my first console launch was the Sega Genesis fyi). Right down there with Wii, WiiU, and Xbox One.

Mario Kart World and DK Bananza looked good, nice to see strong third party support, but between being $450-500, games flirting with $80-90, and absent any big hook for me personally right now, I'm just..."whelmed" by Switch 2 🤷‍♂️

I dunno, I'll hold off until at least 2026. Lots of games this year.
