Notepad++ Users, You May Have Been Hacked by China
Infrastructure delivering updates for Notepad++—a widely used text editor for Windows—was compromised for six months by suspected China-state hackers who used their control to deliver backdoored versions of the app to select targets, developers said Monday. “I deeply apologize to all users affected by this hijacking,” the author of a post published to the official notepad-plus-plus.org site wrote Monday. The post said that the attack began last June with an “infrastructure-level compromise that allowed malicious actors to intercept and redirect update traffic destined for notepad-plus-plus.org.” The attackers, whom multiple investigators tied to the Chinese government, then selectively redirected certain targeted users to malicious update servers where they received backdoored updates.

Last summer, Amazon MGM Studios launched a dedicated AI Studio to develop proprietary AI tools to streamline TV and film production, with a focus on areas like improving character consistency across shots and supporting pre- and post-production. According to a report from Reuters, those tools are now ready to move beyond internal testing. Amazon will begin a closed beta program in March, inviting industry partners to try out its AI tools. Amazon said it anticipates sharing initial outcomes from the program by May. The company chose not to provide further details on the developments when approached by TechCrunch for a comment.

Keith Thurman Embraces Gatekeeper Role Vs Sebastian Fundora
“Say I’m the gatekeeper, but I’m the final boss,” Thurman said. He believes beating him would be the biggest win of Fundora’s life. He isn’t some relic; he’s the proving ground. This perspective colors every comment he makes. He’s showing respect for Fundora’s high volume style while staying cocky about his own ring IQ. ‘One Time’ Thurman described the champ as “a man of few words, but many punches,” but he claims he already sees the mistakes Fundora will make once the rhythm of the fight takes over. He’s even poked at the champion’s chin, noting that Fundora has been dropped before, and he’s more than happy to test it again.

Measles Is Causing Brain Swelling in Children in South Carolina
Some children affected by measles in the ongoing South Carolina outbreak have developed a serious complication of the disease called encephalitis, or swelling of the brain, state epidemiologist Linda Bell said on Wednesday. The South Carolina measles outbreak began in October with a handful of infections. As of February 3, cases have climbed to 876, with 700 of those being reported since the beginning of the year. The surge could mean another bad year of measles for the United States, which had more than 2,267 cases—the highest in 30 years—in 2025.

AI SRE Resolve AI confirms $125M raise, unicorn valuation
Resolve AI, a startup automating the work of system reliability engineering (SRE), aka troubleshooting system failures, has announced a $125 million Series A at a $1 billion valuation. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation of existing investors including Greylock Partners, Unusual Ventures, Artisanal Ventures, and A*. The announcement confirms TechCrunch’s December report that the startup was raising at a billion-dollar valuation led by Lightspeed. Alphabet won’t talk about the Google-Apple AI deal, even to investors
Alphabet declined to answer one of its investors during questions about Google’s AI deal with Apple on Wednesday’s fourth-quarter earnings call. Instead of responding to an analyst’s question about how the tech giant is thinking about AI partnerships, such as the one with Apple to power AI for Siri, the question was completely ignored. That decision tells us something, though — Alphabet isn’t ready to talk about how this partnership will impact its core business, which is increasingly focused on AI. Over the years, the Google-Apple relationship has been mutually beneficial.

Devin Haney Calls Shakur Stevenson Biggest Fight In Boxing
Devin Haney used social media on Tuesday to revive talk of a long discussed showdown with Shakur Stevenson, calling it the “biggest fight in boxing” and outlining a loose wish list that also includes Keyshawn Davis. Haney said he wants Stevenson first, followed by Davis, leaning into the language of familiarity rather than rivalry. Stevenson and Davis have known each other since their amateur days and regularly refer to each other as brothers, which helps explain Haney’s “little bro then big bro” comment and the order in which he named them.

Europe invests billions into early-stage climate startups, only to watch too many fail at Series B, according to a recent report. But new funds are being raised to fill this gap, and Spain-based Mundi Ventures’ latest fund, Kembara Fund I, is one of them. After securing a €350 million commitment from the European Investment Fund under the European Tech Champions Initiative in 2024, Mundi Ventures has just completed a €750 million first close for Kembara, its fifth fund and largest to date.  Regulatory filing from Spain reveals that the fund — focused on deep tech — could even stretch its final closing to €1.25 billion.

Netflix Says if the HBO Merger Makes It Too Expensive, You Can Always Cancel
There is concern that subscribers might be negatively affected if Netflix acquires Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming and movie studios businesses. One of the biggest fears is that the merger would lead to higher prices due to less competition for Netflix. During a US Senate hearing Tuesday, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos suggested that the merger would have an opposite effect. Sarandos was speaking at a hearing held by the US Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy, and Consumer Rights, “

When Valve first announced its impressive-looking Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller hardware in November, the company said the products would begin shipping in early 2026. Some journalists were told “Q1 2026” specifically. But because of the ongoing memory and storage crunch, that launch has been delayed to sometime in the first half of this year, and Valve says it will reset expectations for how much they will cost “as soon as possible.” “We planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now,” …

Snap is on a mission to diversify its revenue sources—moving from a business model in which it largely chases ad revenue to one where it can also make money through subscriptions and, eventually, hardware. The company’s latest quarterly earnings report shows that, so far, the firm is having moderate success with that strategy. In Q4, Snap’s revenue was $1.7 billion, which is up 10% year-over-year. Its average revenue per user was also up, slightly (to $3.62 from $3.44). The company’s net income was $45 million, up from $9 million the previous year, its earnings report shows.

This week, the platform announced a new tool designed to expand on that mission by helping the world’s WordPress users keep their articles in peak digital health. Tantrums, rancid meatloaf and family silver stuffed into underpants: the delicate art of the Holocaust comedy | Books
My beloved German-Jewish grandmother Gisela was not an affable person. She enjoyed laughing at her own jokes, revelling in the misfortunes of others, and telling people off. If an event combined opportunities for all three activities, so much the better. When my father was six, he refused to eat the meatloaf that his mother had given him for lunch. Gisela took the piece of meatloaf, now rapidly turning rancid in the Zimbabwe afternoon heat, and served it to him for dinner, and breakfast, and every subsequent meal until he forced himself to eat it.

William Zepeda Poised To Grab WBC Gold After Shakur Stripped
William Zepeda finds himself sitting in the catbird seat for the vacant WBC lightweight title after the sanctioning body officially stripped Shakur Stevenson today. The move comes on the heels of Shakur jumping up to 140 pounds to take the WBO title from Teofimo Lopez this past Saturday. While Stevenson had the option to hold onto his 135 lb strap, it would have required a $100,000 sanctioning fee that he chose not to pay. Even though Shakur took to social media to complain about the decision, his eyes seemed fixed on heavier weight classes.

Meet Gizmo: a TikTok for interactive, vibe-coded mini apps
Gizmo, a TikTok-like app for vibe-coded mini applications, is offering a new way to create interactive media. The relatively new mobile app from the startup Atma Sciences lets anyone create experiences using text, photos, sound, and touch, which are then displayed in a vertical feed, similar to TikTok or Reels. But unlike traditional short-form video apps, you don’t just watch and scroll in Gizmo — you play. Depending on the type of “Gizmo” you encounter, you might poke the screen, swipe, tap, draw, drag, and more to interact with the mini app.
