Hello New Followers! I guess I should do an intro thread!

We are Pirate Artisans, a married couple of landlocked pirates sailing out of the Midwest to bring our fine handmade treasures to any manner of convention and festival that will have us! Our favorite materials are bronze, glass, and silver!
Reminder that it takes very little effort to be kind, and grace given is often grace you will receive. The world would be a better place if we talked to each other instead of racing to turn every disagreement into a social media tar and feathering. It's also just a bad look.

Just once I'd like to see this fandom look at someone making an inflammatory post that is clearly lacking in context and think "is this person doing this for attention? Is this really behavior we should be rewarding?"

But nope, it's always straight to the torch and pitchfork.

Reminder that if you have lots of money and like to brag about it/don’t know what to do with it, you CAN give some to me no strings attached!

I will be putting it to good use!

Really good batch of glass crows this time! There is also a bone white opaque, but he's less charming in the sun and snow 😭 gonna try a new method for polishing these, the current method is very labor intensive. If it works they will be way easier to finish and hopefully much prettier!

Man people be WILDING, we've turned down seven orders with 65+ grocery items for less than $20. The grocery stores are a madhouse right now what are y'all smoking to tip so little for so much?

Hey guys. So gonna be straight up, due to my back I was not able to work at ALL this week which means no money to help with rent. If you can help, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Saving up for Sweep Tosho, but I chanced one ten pull on the Tamamo banner and was handsomely rewarded for my gamble.

Glass going in the kiln today! I've had to keep punting it down the road bc of technical issues (kiln broke) but those are all smoothed out and it's happening TODAY FRFR.

My back has been much, *much* worse lately.

It's drastically affecting my ability to work at *all*. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna lose my job, which sucks because I like it a lot but it's hard to work when you're in constant pain.

If you can help..please. Paypal.me/witchiebunny

Saw an article about the billionaire wax mannequin YouTuber saying he has no real money and he has to take out loans to pay for stuff. I'm just like you guys!

This is the slimiest kind of spin, bc you, a poor person, think about loans as a burden. But loans are how rich people avoid taxes. 🧵

@gamagachi.bsky.social Had a dream you ambushed us at a convention and we ditched our table to hang out for the weekend; then woke up and realized I hadn't heard that voice in a long time! Miss you, and eagerly await your return!

Jawbones cast! I also printed the test mount for the camera but I need to fiddle with the scale, annoyingly. Tomorrow probably. Onwards and upwards!

I mentioned this in the footnote of my earlier thread, but: It's going to be rough sailing and a lot of headwinds for independent artists for the next few years. Many folks who have been doing this full-time since 2020 are going to find that will no longer be sustainable, myself included.

Up early, not by choice.Planning out new projects, alongside existing commissions, which I am woefully behind on. Some thoughts:

-Many medallion designs are going away, or being reworked by hand so they cast more consistently

-bigger emphasis on smaller, affordable pendants and sculptural work

Today was an experiment in salt on wet paint. Paper did not stay as wet as I might've liked and we didn't have any coarse salt, but I'm with the sort of nebula effect. Quote is from Mirrormask, something I want to channel this year. Whatever happened is past, nowhere to go but up.

Trying to get the streaming setup back up and running! The way I was mounting my dslr to my microscope was... Jank and untenable frankly, so I'm experimenting with some options rn. I think I might have to recalibrate the prism on the trinocular too but I can't know til the camera is set up

I did a little thread on the different kinds of wax I use, for those who are curious!
Not a silly question at all! There are *many* different colors of wax in lost wax casting, and mostly it's just a matter of purpose, and the color is a way to know which ones you're using. In this case, the blue is an injection wax, and the pink is a "modeling" wax, or sprue wax.
