Does #SexualSelection fuel #Speciation?
Our new #meta-analysis of comparative studies finds support for a positive relationship, but the rather moderate global effect suggests it’s not necessarily a dominant force.

Sexual selection and speciation: a meta-analysis of comparative studies
Abstract. Understanding the drivers of biodiversity is a central goal in evolutionary biology. In particular, sexual selection has long been proposed as a

Our study ‘The global human impact on biodiversity’ is out in Nature!
Through an unprecedented synthesis (2133 studies!) we show that humans are not only shrinking species numbers—but reshaping entire communities across the planet. 🌍🌐🐟🌿🪲

New paper in MPE on the evolution 🧬 of the iconic milkvetches 🌿 of the Astragalus Caprini group. We find eastern Mediterranean origin and diversification since the mid-Pleistocene 🦣. Plus: Lineages in Mediterranean mountains ⛰️ are old and those in today's Steppes 🌾 are young. Congrats Clemens 🙌
Evolution, range formation and a revised taxonomy of the disjunctly distributed European members of Astragalus sect. Caprini, an intricate group including highly endangered species of dry grasslands
The Eurasian steppes are among the largest and most threatened biomes on Earth. During cold periods of the Pleistocene, the zonal Eurasian steppes had…
