A little early Christmas present from work. I was due for a machine refresh and a new 15” Surface with a 12core Snapdragon X1E80100 ARM64 CPU, 64GB RAM and 1TB SSD was delivered today. All set up now, and I’m excited to see how the battery holds up through a day in the office when I go back in Jan.

Watched Spirited again. It remains a modern Christmas Classic.

Oh, thanks. I think it was a different episode of the same segment and I got confused.

@johntmhiggins.bsky.social what was the arm mount HR monitor you recommended on the Vergecast?

Nevermind, they are already taking about making 4km x 4km solar arrays to power their 5GW datacenter, so I guess adding half that area again as radiators wouldn’t be a blocker.
December 12, 2025 at 2:11 AM
By my read this means a GW data center in space needs a radiator array with an area half the size of Central Park. That’s a lot to bring up, maintain, keep in orbit, etc. They neglect pumps, but I don’t see how you’d do it without them which means more energy, which means more area still.

I just don’t get what the heat dissipation plan is?

Better late than never. Made a batch of @altonbrown.bsky.social ‘s aged egg nog for the holidays

@scalzi.com I saw recently that you wrote a summary of the Old Man’s War series. About to start The Shattering Peace, and now I can’t find it. Can you share a link, and maybe put it on whatever?

I typically make @altonbrown.bsky.social’s recipe, which is a combo.

All thread all the time. J/k it’s a bit of a pain still, but hopefully with brands like IKEA adopting it things will get simpler.

I’ve got a fire tablet that I use, but they aren’t designed to be always charging. Also, does the app work as a mic/speaker for Home Assistant voice? I haven’t tried that part yet.

Related - can NabuCasa make a hub with a tablet/speaker/mic to compete with Google home, Alexa devices?

When will #HomeAssistant support for #Matter binding come out of beta? Have been slowly replacing all my switches with Inovelli smart switches lately and having them control smart bulbs is terrible.

I *may* own a pair of carbon plated shoes for races, but I’m not out here talking about them all the time Tim.

I think you are looking for @timheuer.com . I don’t cycle, I just run.

#rustlang docs are live on Microsoft Learn: aka.ms/rust/docs

These expand on #AzureSDK examples with more user scenarios and more to come. While we always want our crate READMEs to be helpful, we also want them to be concise. Of course, there's more information and many doc examples on docs.rs

No. Right now I don’t really have anything connected to Health Kit. Should i connect any/all of Garmin/Oura/Ladder?
August 29, 2025 at 6:58 PM
Of course. I should remember to do this!
August 29, 2025 at 6:34 PM
Oh, that’s fine. I have a Fenix 7, and I do record there too. It’s more my Oura activity completion is trending down, since it doesn’t know about the work I’m doing (and maybe that plays into recovery advice, etc).
August 29, 2025 at 6:33 PM
I’ve been getting back into lifting a bit lately. I always take my Oura off when I do, but then I don’t get “credit” for it. Any other suggestions? @vicmsong.bsky.social ?

People who are good at photography stuff - I have very few pictures of my mom. One of the best is an iPhone shot from 2017, but it’s backlit. Any tips to help make it better to print?

OMG - almost 2 years after I bought them, I *finally* managed to get my Nanoleaf bulbs to connect to my Home Assistant Sky Connect with Open Thread Border Router. Getting thread credentials synced between iOS and HA has been a PITA.
