Yeah, I didn't think this would go over well with the laptop class liberal crowd over here. At least on pre-Musk Twitter, there was a wider spectrum of discourse on such things.

The charge of being a "Nepo Baby" needs to carry with it significantly more stigma if we're ever going to reach any kind of approximation of equity.
Unfortunately, the discourse is dominated by nepo babies who think they're "one of the good ones".

The idea of going on TikTok makes me angry too but that doesn't change the fact that the people who need to be nudged out of voting for the pillaging of their own country aren't the ones reading polemics—or even reading at all.
okay somehow this totally banal observation about the relative scale and influence of social media platforms has made some people extremely mad
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.

Too many progressives love to actively confuse what "ought" to be for what "is", even in the face of overwhelming evidence. And you can't make any progress being like that.

Not at all. I want to play video games and eat pizza, but I run a nonprofit that's trying to teach critical thinking skills to dudes who are vulnerable to misinformation and prone to violence, and that seems slightly more important these days.

I'm not going to exclude the possibility that I just don't spend enough time over here to run into what I'm looking for: nuanced but productive disagreement about contentious issues.
I agree with someone like Sam Harris maybe 10% of the time, but if he started an account here there would be riots.

There has to be a happy medium between a social media platform that is overrun with Nazis, bots, and incels, and one that is ideologically sterile.

So as I understand it:
It is "civil discourse" when the dominant social group (white, male, Christians) politely and calmly uses their "free speech" to demonize and dehumanize others—but when their target minority groups get upset about the resulting threats to their lives and safety how dare they?

At the end of the day, you don't need to understand the neurobiology and psychology behind gender dysphoria; you don't need to understand the sociology of how gender identity is constructed, changes, and overlaps with sex.
