One of our service providers is experiencing a major outage right now, so a few problems are showing up on our sites (e.g. time zones, elevation, eclipses).

Sorry for the interruption, hopefully all will be restored soon. More here: forum.photoephemeris.com/t/cloudflare...

Neat things about tonight's almost full moon:

- It will rise and set about as far south as you'll ever see it
- It will never get very high in the sky (a mere +6 degrees above the horizon maximum in the north of England, for example).

Some unique photo opportunities!

A stunning sunrise in New Britain, Papua New Guinea, taken while moored at Fathers Reef near Lolobau Island.

I think the two larger volcanoes are Ulawun (middle) and Bamus (right).

The full moon rising over Denver International Airport. It's a slightly trickier shot to get than you might think due to viewpoints and angles.

Here's a short video on how it was planned and executed: youtu.be/JP8AnsW5QZc

Part 4 in our architectural photography series covers some techniques for addressing wide angle distortion. Here we use DxO ViewPoint 5 and show how to use the relatively new "propagation" slider in the ReshapeFusion.

Architectural Photography, Part 4: Fixing Wide Angle Distortion
At the end of our last article, we had corrected the converging verticals and the slight horizontal yaw of our photo, and yet things still aren't quite right..

It's almost a year since the great solar storm of May 2024. I was looking back on some of the shots from northern Colorado from that night.

What do you think about the B&W processing? Fine tuning the color filter hue in SilverEfex vastly changes each shot.

The pair of nesting red-tailed hawks we saw last year in the middle of Boulder have returned again this year, it appears.

This shot is from last year - looking forward to another attempt to capture some behaviour once again!

Another from Durham Cathedral, this time the interior, shot mid-morning on a sunny day.

While the building mostly pre-dates the Gothic style, its windows still admit more than enough light to create some beautiful interior effects.

The east elevation of Durham Cathedral in the morning sun. What a wonderful building. The east end is the one of the "modern" bits, not built until the year 1230!
