“It is a superb piece of theological writing - historically grounded, textually attentive, and theologically insightful… articulated with impressive clarity and depth.”

Just some feedback I received recently…

Don’t just focus on all of the bad news. Look at how so many people are showing up to provide assistance and help protect the vulnerable. In every part of the country, there are good people doing good things.

The prophets are clear that God judges rulers and institutions not simply by whether they can claim the law on their side, but by whether they act justly, tell the truth, and protect the vulnerable.

If you repeatedly argue and engage in bad faith, people will rightfully conclude that your faith is bad.

There is a deep spiritual cost of living by fear rather than faith - of trusting in the power to destroy instead of the power to heal.

Every dollar spent on nuclear weapons is a dollar withheld from the hungry. Every missile tested is a signal that we still believe violence will keep us safe.

I feel like it's problematic when you walk into a sanctuary and a screen is elevated directly above the cross...

Child listening in while parents watch a adult show:

“Mom, do they just add the cussing to make it more dramatic?”

When a congregation places a national flag in its sanctuary, it invites God to speak to the nation it represents. Pastors would do well to accept that invitation.

“Nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed from the housetops.”

Selfish people don’t worry that they’re selfish.

Hateful people don’t worry that they’re hateful.

Cruelty never checks its own motives. Love does.

Arrogance never questions itself. Humility does.

Indifference never feels the weight of others. Compassion does.

Those who think they can earn their way into heaven will be real irritated when grace lets the rest of us in for free.

“Jesus said do unto others that which you would have done unto yourself.” & “… they will be crushed by the violence, precision and ferocity of the War Department. In other words, to our enemies, FAFO.”

These two phrases are part of the same speech.

“From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit. They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. “Peace, peace,” they say, when there is no peace. Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct? No, they have no shame at all…”

Successful parenting is being able to walk into any room and not immediately scream “what the hell happened in here?!?!” at the top of your lungs every twenty minutes.

When people hear “justice” and imagine only pain for wrongdoers, they miss God’s larger work of redemption and repair. The Gospel calls the church to seek restoration (repair harm, free captives, transform systems) rather than merely demand payback.
