Journalist. Likes a bit of grub.
It’s a bank holiday, and RTÉ One has made no concession beyond a 30-minute doc about a panto dame.
Where’s the film after the news?
At the least, it could have done a BBC1 and shown E2 of These Sacred Vows. It’s on the Player anyway.
Oh, well - Silent Witness is back at 9pm, tonight and tomorrow…

Isn’t blowjob a corruption of ‘below’ job? The act itself requires the very opposite of blowing! 🤔

Hoping Trump was just bluffing was “the tack Europe’s leaders took for too long - that somehow this vainglorious vulgarian only was obsessed with turning the Oval Office as gilded as Nefertiti’s tomb…”

Thanks very much! It’s nice to see more money is due - it’s in need of a little TLC!

You too, Joules, and the hound!

I’ve wanted to go here for ages, and finally was taken today by my elder sister - the 1935 De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-On-Sea. Her, my younger sister, and I had lunch. A lovely way to end Christmas!

You too, Rachel! Say hi to S and P for me, and have a great Christmas, all of you. I have a way to go, but a year hopefully will make a difference! Px

People have asked how I’m doing since I had a stroke in Rome in April. I had four months in hospital, and I had to learn to walk again. I have a way to go, but I’m good, thank you. Happy Christmas to all!

Christmas in Ireland continues until January 6 - Little Christmas, also known as Nollaig na mBan (Women’s Christmas), when women celebrate together and leave family and home to the men!

I’m good, thanks, Denise. I have a long way to go, but I’m mobile, which is a start. I can’t feel temperature on the right side, but I hope I’ll get there. I’m off to England for Christmas, first flight since the stroke. Fingers crossed. Happy Christmas to you!

Hi, Marcus - I hope you’re well!

The majority of the world calls it soccer.
December 7, 2025 at 2:09 PM
For the last time, soccer is a British English word, dating from the 19th century. It comes from the ‘soc’ in ‘association’. It was used to differentiate from rugby football (“rugger”). British exceptionalism at its finest. You know there’s also Gaelic football, American football, Aussie rules, etc?

I’m good, thanks, Philip. Not wild about my reliance on others to get out, because I’m a very independent person, but I have no choice at the moment, and everyone has been good to the point of exceptional! A year will hopefully see a big difference.

Life will never be the same again, but I’ll make a new one!

Life is weird. Just the other day, I was posting elsewhere about Giorgio Armani’s death, and the Duomo in Milan. Today, I find a bag of photos, and there are a few I’ve never seen before. Like my late father in 1955, aged 25, outside the, er, Duomo…

It’s far from perfect, but given the fact I effectively was paralysed three months ago, I’m grateful for walking again, splint and all. Arm has a bit to go, and I need practice outdoors, but improving every day. Physio and occupational team here in Enniscorthy are terrific! #StrokeRecovery

It’s hard to over-estimate the influence of Tom Lehrer on those of us who have a dark sense of humour. He came and he went, young and at the top of his game, and in doing so cemented his legend forever. Clever chap. He died yesterday at 97, and remains as relevant today as ever.

Best wishes to you two too, Rachel! xx

I’m really bored at when no one is calling, all right!

I weigh about half what I used to - I had a haircut today, the first in three months! 🤣 Who says there aren’t good people in the world, by the way? My regular Turkish barber in Gorey (thanks, #BabySis, for taking me there) refused to take a cent. 👏
July 27, 2025 at 2:04 PM
Hiya, Pat! I hope all is good with you!
July 12, 2025 at 3:54 PM
Thanks, Colm. I was in Rome to cover Pope Francis’s funeral, but I never made it. The office and my brother got me home on a private jet. It’s been quite the journey, but I’ll get there!
