Radium was initially considered a miraculous substance, health-giving… then its dangers became clear. The Radium Girls were among the first victims.
May 29, 1925: Five women have died from ingesting radium while at their factory job in New Jersey painting watch dials to give them a luminous glow. Deaths among the “Radium Girls” from illnesses including cancer, anemia and bone necrosis will reach a minimum of 38. 1/8
