I love to share my adventures - and even more to enjoy yours! I live in Staines - and that is all you need to know...
We're on parish pilgrimage - with two destinations on our itinerary. You will see the clue to one of them here...

Help! Eurostar have cancelled our train 09:01 Lon - Brussels this coming Monday, transferring our booking (for 47 pax) to the 19:34 arriving 22:35! But we have separate onward tickets via Verviers to Kevelaer in Germany, where our hotel is. Anyone who knows got any advice? @seatsixtyone.bsky.social

Now, this journey is inspiring me...
Fleeing the country.
On our way to start the next, most ambitious (and probably last for a good while) Travelling Turtle adventure.
Even with help from this weird aerial form of transport, it’s going to take a long time to get to the starting point, so join me on Sunday afternoon for #Schengen200

An excellent thread about where and where not to use Interrail...

So, it's time to leave Poland and, as always I'm a bit sad.
The next part of my trip will include a plane...

Over the last week I have laid low, visiting a couple of places in Poland and meeting friends.
Previously, I travelled to Krynica Morska and Kalwaria Zebrzydowska...
Dzień dobry from just outside Tychy, and we're about 1 hour 40 late...

Breaking news: the pope finally got back to his Duolingo account on Sunday. He’s now learning Italian.

Time for a new thread.
Previously I travelled from Staines to Gdynia, via Hoek van Holland, Liepaja and Tczew.
For the next six days I will remain in Poland, before going to a country that not known for its Slavic population...
It's that time of year, so time to set off bright and early from Staines on a trip to somewhere interesting and far away. My journey does not start with a train, but should include a plane. Let's see how it goes...

On a mission today. See you tonight, Staines...

Off to do a baptism in Weston-super-mare, so here I am at Reading waiting for my ride out west.

The class 455s haven't got long for this world, so whenever I get a chance I try to ride one. So yesterday evening I headed to Shepperton station for a short ride.

A First class trip from St. Pancras. Onboard service is good - bacon rolls, constant steward service, better than Eurostar. But the train is rattly, bumpy and past its best.

Spotted in Staines - the stock of the new Britannic Explorer luxury train passes through our town, presumably on a test run for the upcoming 'Jewels of Spelthorne' tour.

How vindictive! Search for a seat reservation Duisburg - Amsterdam today and it's no problem. Search tomorrow, when reservations become compulsory for the summer - and it's blocked. And yes, seats are available... @seatsixtyone.bsky.social

Sunday afternoon - & some extra days off this week. I start with a ride on our newly nationalised railway. I remember the first day of SWT, its chaotic start and how it settled down quite nicely. It's successor, SWR, was rather uninspiring so it's nice to see that chapter come to an end.

Hopefully nothing big will happen in the Church this week - so it's a good time to get away. Where shall we go?

That's quite a transformation. New livery, new cab, new doors, new windows, new power source...

@europeanrailtt.bsky.social Do you have any update on when the Winter 2024-25 'Beyond Europe' supplement will be available to download?

@swrhelp.bsky.social This is a great livery, and I fully support everything it stands for - but please, please, please don't put on the windows!!

Off to Poland today, though by air (I've got my reasons...) However let's see what we can see...

@europeanrailtt.bsky.social The 'Bible' has arrived. Thicker, heavier, but the better paper makes it much easier to read. Overall, an improvement - even if I will miss the frequency!
