Just used a new set of Hagoromo chalk during a lecture and man it really makes a difference. I've used it before for little one-off things and liked it, but for a full lecture, it really freed up some part of my brain that I didn't know was occupied.

"Research support" is part of my job description and I absolutely love it. I get to hear about really cool science from a lot of different people, and my job is to help them get unstuck. It really plays into the way my brain works and it's incredibly gratifying!

People who aren't used to compressed directories in Windows have no frame of reference for understanding why they have problems writing files to something that, in all other respects, behaves like a directory. Without prior experience, figuring this out can be totally maddening.

Unexpectedly had to explain dimensionless time to my integrative science class today and did my best to go beyond "Physicists love to do it."

Artists I have heard while shopping that make me remember that I'm turning 35 this year: Hot Chip, Deathcab for Cutie, and CHVRCHES (at Dunkin of all places).

Is there a database out there of bioinformatics/biological data science jobs at the entry level? Would be helpful for advising students interested non-academic careers without a graduate degree. #bioinformatics #datascience #iknowhashtagsarentathingherebutwhatever

When I was in Kindergarten, I thought that my dad's favorite food was tinned sardines. I hated them as a kid. Now, as a dad entering his own tinned fish era, I'm 1 for 1 in getting my son to eat and enjoy a tin (TJ's smoked trout). So give me your tinned fish for toddlers suggestions!

The duality of relief (because everything is laid out organized and clear) and dread (because oh god did I overcommit) when you fill out your google calendar at the start of the semester...

In hindsight, I think the biggest challenge I faced last year was teaching a first-semester introductory coding course that had everyone from first-years to seniors. The students had such varied learning needs and a huge part of my job was triage. I'll give it a shot again I'm sure!

I'm in the Philippines and have done the most maladaptive code switching where my English is accented, but I don't actually speak and only barely understand Filipino.

Just got my first crop of first-year advisees. Many of them are pre-med and I'd like to do the best by them that I can. Anyone out there willing to chat about or point me to some resources that discuss what the med school application process looks like these days?
