I have crafted a bill, the “There are No Secret Police Act,” that will protect people’s civil liberties while ensuring that federal agents involved in immigration enforcement and detention are held accountable. I have asked my senators and representative to sponsor it. This act will: ● Require all agents from ICE, CBP, FBI, HSI, USMS, and other agencies engaged in immigration enforcement operate body-worn cameras during detentions. ● Mandate that all officers clearly display their names, badge numbers, and agency affiliations. ● Ensure that family members or witnesses are informed where a detainee is being held and how they can be contacted. ● Establish a searchable public database listing all detainees by name and ID number, with up-to-date information about their detention location. This legislation would protect and uphold the rights guaranteed under the Constitution to all people, regardless of immigration status.
