Venezia / Los Angeles. I read books.

For reasons beyond my understanding, #Weebly deleted the site about #books and #Venice I had been working on for over a year. Their “support” team is unresponsive. I’m a little crushed. #ReadingVenice
An appropriately eerie, foggy #Venice hosts the #VeniceNoir festival as of today – the Trial of Casanova panel was brilliant, both fun and thought provoking

Today it’s the Festa di San Martin – children in #Venice enjoy Saint Martin-shaped biscotti covered with candy and frosting, and go around their neighborhood banging on pots and pans to demand candy from storekeepers.

I found some #quince at the farmers’ market so I made dulce de membrillo, a treat that reminds me of my grandparents’ native Uruguay…

Churches in #Italy often feature tiny #thriftstores. At a church in #Venice I just got a used checkered button-down shirt (100% cotton, Made in England) as a replacement for a beloved plaid shirt that a friend gave me 30 years ago, when I was a teenager, and that’s now literally threadbare

I’ve been taking #vogaveneta (Venetian-style #rowing, standing up) lessons for over a year now and it’s not getting any easier…

So comforting, delicious and nutritious – my #stracciatella #soup with #rainbowchard (instead of the classic spinach, which I couldn’t find at the farmers’ market), dried tomatoes and a couple of beaten eggs

A wonderful exhibition about writer #MarioRigoniStern highlights his WW2 experiences, his friendship with Primo Levi and his lifelong passion for nature, especially his native mountains around Asiago.

I love it that the EMERGENCY EXIT sign is reflected in this #selportrait of Edvard #Munch, now on display at the Candiani Center in #Venice-Mestre

So simple yet so scrumptious – 2 fried eggs from my #farmersmarket supplier, whose sign, complete with pics, advertises “free and happy hens”

In awe of the master, as always – #JosephConrad. I’d never read his short story collection Within the Tides but it seemed apt to read it on a boat, even if it’s just a vaporetto…

Many #Venice bars & #wine shops are currently displaying signs advertising the arrival of the #torbolino – a new wine, very fruity and sweet, available only for a few weeks in the fall.
