Start the week with a unicorn! No, not the Torch Unicorn though I'd quite like one of those too.

No, there'll be two camps for this one. You'll either instantly know what it is or, more likely, you'll never have heard of it because it never sold.

This is the HH Tiger, aka the Tangerine Microtan 2.
Overhead pic of the Tiger showing the nice coloured function keys that could be used as colour selectors in Teletext mode. The machine is bigger than it looks, not far short of the Tatung Einstein. Keyboard is VERY reminiscent of the Acorn Electron despite neither Tangerine or HH having any Acorn connections. Back of the Tiger showing all the IO ports - centronics printer, cassette (rare for a disk-based machine), light pen (because every 80s machine had to have one), TTL RGB video, network in/out and GPIB. Serial number is seen as 20502, aka 'machine number 2.' Number 1 is in the Centre For Computing History in Cambridge. Lid off! Now we can see the tray which holds the PSU with its lovely toroidal transformer (HH made audio products you say?). Space to the left of the tray is where the modem lived. In the centre of the PSU board is a large red coil which was later moved offboard to live on the side of the case because it was affecting the monitor picture. Complete motherboard pic. In it you can see the 3x 32K RAM boards at the top which were discrete memory for the D7220 graphics processor. Along the bottom is the Z80 and GPIB components, the Z80 has its own ROMs and 64K of RAM. Down the right hand side is the 6809 IO part of the machine, again the 6809 has its own ROMs and RAM. Top right is the IO with a pair of 6522s for the comms.

Managed to finally get hold of a personal unicorn machine! Been after one for a very long time! This is my Indata DAI. An incredibly rare beast from 1980. A monster spec that was reflected in the cost at the time. Lovely. ZX80 for scale 😁 (didn't have a banana)

There’s a real thrill in seeing this for the first time, I got it when I made the Atari 2600 / GameBoy cart and Speccy tape and have it again with the Master System cart. This isn’t the final cart, it won’t fit in a case (or properly in the SMS) with a chip holder #IndieDev #RetroDev #RetroGaming
