Somehow this was 20 years ago today!
This ETPS 'raspberry ripple' Jaguar still rates as one of my all time highlight moments of photographing aircraft at low level.

Dipper action from the River Wye in the Peak District last weekend.
Love these little characters!

Not my finest otter photos but what a thrill to see these two hunting in the River Lune yesterday morning. My first ever sighing of non-coastal otters!

The ever-changing winter light of Goðafoss Waterfall, from the golden early-morning light picking out the amazing ice formations to the beautiful blue-hour just before darkness.
One of my favourite places in the world!

Aldeyjarfoss Waterfall in Northern Iceland
After a long drive along a rough gravel road, followed by an even longer hike along a snowy mountain track, we were rewarded with the breath-taking sight of one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland, surrounded by snow-covered basalt rock formations.

A strange but beautiful spot in Northern Iceland, with a warm and steamy river cutting through the snowy landscape with the steam from a geothermal power plant rising in the distance beyond.

Here's the peak of today's partial solar eclipse, with the moon covering around 45% of the sun.
Pretty cool to see from the back garden!

Aldeyjarfoss Waterfall in the north of Iceland.
After a long drive along a rough gravel road and an even longer hike along a snowy mountain track, we were rewarded with the breath-taking sight of possibly the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland.

A truly spectacular evening at Goðafoss Waterfall in Northern Iceland, watching the most amazing aurora display that we've ever seen!

Captured as a panorama of 5 vertical images on March 4th.

Some beautiful chilly mornings, endless trees and partly frozen lochs in the Cairngorms...

A super day out in the wonderfully remote Findhorn Valley a couple of weeks ago, admiring the beautiful scenery and spotting the mountain hares. Love this place!

The most beautiful animal at the Highland Wildlife Park has to be this stunning lynx. What a beauty!

Our first aurora of the year!
We missed the peak of the northern lights show on the evening of New Year's Day whilst we were having our tea, but still saw this beautiful glow over the town of Kirkcudbright later on.
A great way to start the new year!

The final photo of my countdown is one from the best wildlife trip we've ever been on - to the Great Bear Rainforest in Canada to search for grizzly bears.

We stood on the river bank as this mother and cub caught salmon in the river right in front of us. An incredible experience.

Happy Christmas!

Day 23 of my Advent countdown features a city like no other...

This is Tromsø in arctic Norway, lit up below a spectacular aurora during our visit back in February.
This view made it one of the most incredible evenings of the year, though it was also probably the coldest I've been all year!

Today's advent photo is one of my favourites from the whole year, and it was taken only a few miles from home!

It's a composite of eight photos, taken as this beautiful barn owl dived from a brief hover onto a vole right in front of me.

I remember I was grinning from ear to ear when this happened!

Day 21 is another photo from the Canadian Rockies - sunrise at Emerald Lake.
We arrived early to the wonderful sight of a fiery sun emerging from behind the low clouds.
Later the cloud completely cleared to reveal a beautifully sunny day at one of the most picturesque locations that we've visited.

Day 20 of my Advent countdown features another photo from our recent trip to Finnish Lapland.

This is Santa's Cabin, high in the hills above Levi. It was a cloudy and cold ride up the mountain, but then the cloud lifted and we were greeted by the most magical scene I think we've ever experienced!

Advent day 19 takes us back to the Rocky Mountains of Canada.

A ridiculously early start to the day saw us on a shuttle bus in complete darkness at 5am to catch the magical sunrise at Moraine Lake.

Later we walked along the lakeshore, where this beautiful scene caught my eye...

Day 18 of Advent features a snowy sunset scene from Tromsø in the far north of Norway.
This far into the arctic the light was incredible, with the golden pink hues of sunset catching the peaks of the distant mountains.
If you look closely you can even see a ptarmigan, camouflaged against the snow.

It's a cheeky red squirrel for day 17 of my Advent countdown!

We've previously had only fleeting glimpses of red squirrels on Anglesey, but on our visit back in May we found a wonderful spot to see them and spent good few hours enjoying their company.
