Applying this insight in a HE context:

"a process of ‘socially organized denial’ currently exists within unis, leading academics to experience a state of ‘double reality’ that inhibits feelings of accountability & agency, & this is self-reenforcing through the production of ‘pluralistic ignorance'

🌏 'Nature-led and science-based.' We believe that our seabed's recovery should be a natural one; allowing it a chance to REWILD in balance with the environmental conditions of that area and without human intervention/active restoration, will result in a more robust and resilient ecosystem recovery.

UK Government confirms that sandeel ban in English waters will remain.

Good news confirming sandeel fishing ban will remain in place now that UK has determined that this is consistent with principle of proportionality, following a recent Permanent Court of Arbitration ruling

The reality rather than the optimistic but unrealistic spin..
Almost no hard corals - no branching staghorns, no table corals, a dead Pocillopora. On a healthy reef, these and other hard corals should exceed 50% cover.

Very low diversity - some fragmented remnants of rubbery soft corals. The pink stuff is coralline algae. Lots of scuzzy algal turfs.

Awful.

Another concerning consequence of human activities on our oceans....

Stop clutching at distracting tokenistic straws that are perversely intended to lull people into a false sense of security and accept that tropical coral reefs only have a future if we rapidly transition towards decarbonising our economies and lifestyles

@altagliabue.bsky.social making a presentation at @ucl.ac.uk telling us that ocean iron fertilization won’t do jack for climate and will further harm fisheries.

Yet, it’s the marine CO₂ removal (mCDR) method that has sold the most credits so far. 🤷🏻‍♂️
