Ben what happened and I hope you are ok!

Our final paper for 2024: link.springer.com/article/10.1...
We provide rmax & fishing mortality for Endangered Spinetail & Bentfin Devil Rays. We demonstrate an approach to assess data-poor species. Urgent need to reduce catch of all devil rays to prevent species extinctions. @iucnshark.bsky.social

Thanks Emma, it was obviously great to have your and your co-authors research to build on.🎄

Thanks Denise, God Jul!

Many thanks Peter, have a Merry one!

Need a festive season read in front of the fire?

We hope this paper published today In Marine Mammal Science will be of interest. We demonstrate the application of PAM and signature whistles to estimate abundance of bottlenose dolphins with comparable results to Photo-ID.

In other areas e.g. off the UK, development of offshore windfarms has had a positive effect on harbour porpoise occurrence. Wind turbines create a reef effect leading to increased foraging opportunities for whales and refuge from shipping and fishing activities: link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Opponents say Dominion’s offshore wind farm endangers whales. Scientists reject the claim.
The controversy is one of several roadblocks the U.S. offshore wind industry faces as it finds its footing. And Dominion’s Virginia Beach project — which is set to be the nation’s largest commer...

Hi, introducing myself to the bluesky community. I am a marine megafauna conservation biologist. I conduct research & develop low-cost methods for assessment of marine mammals, sharks & rays and methods to mitigate threats to these animals. Hoping together we can improve the marine environment.
