Georg Elser, after the interrogation by the Gestapo in 1939, following his assassination attempt on Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler, Hess, Rosenberg, Streicher & Ley.
If it weren't for the fog, Elser would have single-handedly prevented the greatest failure of mankind. (1/10)

How am I only the 300th person to see this?

Nina Nastasia has released another wonderful album (and 3 music videos) and I'm only finding out about it 3 months later.

She's bypassing the streaming platforms, selling it only direct-to-fan via bandcamp: ninanastasia.bandcamp.com/album/songs-...

Today, Japan celebrates Mountain Day for the tenth time. The kanji character for "eight" (八) looks like a mountain, 11 like two trees, so naturally August 11 became a new public holiday dedicated to: appreciating mountains.

I just like that.

How I wish I lived in a world where anything meant anything anymore. Where an 11,000 word article on how you sacrificed the lives of tens of thousands for your own personal gain would be a career-ender.

How long would Watergate stay in the news today? Surely not long enough for Nixon to resign.

Forbidden Stories has long documented attacks on the media and exposed how Israeli forces have sought to evade accountability, through cross-border investigations like the #GazaProject. Today, alongside 130+ global press freedom leaders, we join the urgent call for immediate access to Gaza.

The least streamed song on Rich Dawson's new album might be my favourite song of 2025.

Mountains of finger food, flutes of fizz
Billowing bunting my self-loathing is
A purse full of bile whose drawstrings are this cheery smile
"How've you been getting on?"
Sausage rolls and vol-au-vents
Knot

"deal" is a magic word, part of the Trumpian spell, but vacuous. Challenge to reporters: write the news, especially regarding Ukraine, without using it.

This is the only white noise video that drowns out the subwoofer array of the travelling circus across the road.

Spare a thought for those poor dromedaries, torn from the tranquil wadi into the eternal noise of electronic tightrope music.

Beatrice Rana's incredible new recording of Bach's keyboard concertos. Check it out for her wonderful, effortless playing, & the communal, joyous atmosphere, & the rare balance between modern piano and the small string orchestra of the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. 10/10

[Fucking kill him (2x)
Kill him already kill him] (3x)
Just
Fucking kill him (2x)
Fucking kill him already kill him
Fucking kill him (2x)
Kill him already kill him
Kill him already (2x)

"Just" breaks the regular pattern, a disturbance reflected in a later trochee & epizeuxis w/ "fucking kill him".
Two ways to misread satire: 1. Take it literally. 2. Dismiss the earnest within.

The tenderness of "where her garments come together, where I used to lay my face" is still as tender. And that second half - when you listen to it today - you just can't help but feel it deep in your guts.

We need to build a European Silicon Valley and actively recruit highly trained scientists and professionals who don't feel at home in the US anymore.

Build the reservoir, pump and pipes for their brain drain. So much potential.
