No chance of a blood moon yesterday evening Cornwall - too light, too cloudy, too low - but compensated by a spectacular sunset.

Years ago, I was footling around on the piano after a conference dinner when someone asked if I could play her favourite tune Autumn Leaves. I couldn't but went home & learnt it. Now, every year, I record it and send it to her. So, @profsallybrown.bsky.social this is for you x

That went well!
From AHE to A&E.
From the wonderful AHE conference in Manchester to A&E in Truro.
(Don’t ask…..well, if you insist, three cracked ribs from a bad fall).
Heigh ho.

A5 Good design and taking a holistic approach to the whole programme design is absolutely key. So much in HE doesn’t work well (or not at all) due to poor design. #lthechat

A4 Block learning actually mirrors what happens out there in the ‘real world’. Many jobs involve block projects. #lthechat
April 2, 2025 at 7:40 PM
A4 Hmmmm…..
You need…
Flexible mind-sets (people)
Adaptable teaching spaces (environment)
Efficient/effective systems

Need to address all three together. #lthechat
April 2, 2025 at 7:36 PM
A3 That still has the problem of assessment perceived (and practised) as a ‘bolt-on’ at the end of the block. Block teaching is a good candidate for assessment as an ongoing, dialogic process so, by the end, the students actually know how they’ve done. #Lthechat
April 2, 2025 at 7:25 PM
A2 You need a decent ‘deschooling’ period not only to explain how the block system works but for students to experience it, with a very light-touch approach to assessment. #Lthechat
April 2, 2025 at 7:18 PM
A1 I’d have thought a more pertinent question is who might block teaching exclude? #Lthechat
