I write about life at its edges: where grief and mortality sharpen meaning. Researcher and psychologist in training; future hospice founder. Autumn palette in clothes and life. Deep waters only.
Reading When Breath Becomes Air for Dying Well, a course in my ALM at Harvard taught by @jasonsilverstein.bsky.social. Kalanithi’s turn from surgeon to patient leaves the question unavoidable: is identity what we build or what remains when everything collapses? #AnatomyOfAState

My mother exists only backward now, never forward. I try to carry her into each new day, but she comes as a memory, a feeling, sometimes a photograph. I exist now. She doesn’t.

This isn’t the grief of collapse. It’s the grief woven into the fabric of a good-enough marriage.
The missed paths, the quiet repetitions, the life that becomes yours by staying.
Dept. of Speculation sees it clearly.

My panic attacks were not malfunctions.
They were sirens.
“You’re living wrong! You’re living wrong!”
The cure wasn’t in medicine. It was in building a life my body no longer needed to escape from.
