Getting Here

The truth is that I got to where I am by asking or anticipating certain questions and steps over and over and over and over until I was weary of the word, "over," and then some more. How I Got Where I Am destination #success #successstory #journey

Be Prepared and Watchful

Be Watchful “Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom and five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them …” – Matthew 25:1-13 When I had to learn memory verses as a child, “Jesus wept” was a wonderful standby. That was simple and there were only two words to remember. Here is another, more to the point: As a Boy Scout, our motto was as easy, “

Green Leaves

“…but her leaf shall be green …” - Jeremiah 17:8 There are days and years when our leaves wither. Or influence evaporates. Our joy is diminished. Our hopes and dreams come to naught. Such were the days that Isaiah prophesied and Jeremiah both lived and prophesied. But a better day…

But a better day would come with repentance and renewal and Jeremiah foretold it for “the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.” That is the key. To stay green and fresh, full of life and giving life, one must do two things: trust in God and hope in God.

The word “outrageous” often comes to mind, along with “outlandish” and many other words starting with “out.” I find myself at odds with much of the thinking, feelings, actions, and words of our time.

Have We No Decency?
I have been trying to be more consistent and outspoken about current events, feeling somewhat frustrated, thinking that it’s just more of the same.

Jesus describes a time of desecration, danger, and urgency—a moment when people must flee, when systems fail, and when safety is uncertain. It is one of the most intense passages in the Gospels.
The God Who Gathers

To be known. To belong. To feel rooted rather than scattered.

Tyrants and Olive Trees - Tyrants need to know that their evil has an expiration date. They plot, attack, say hurtful things, lie, and boast about all of it thinking they are clever and invincible. The godly are, on the other hand, fully alive.

Jesus expected to be cast away and abandoned. “And then shall many be offended…” – Matthew 24:10 As we break the bread and drink the cup, let us know that this feast was initiated by One whose witness offended many. They were so offended that they would crucify Him The Lord, Jesus, as He walked among us, was an attractive and compelling character to the masses, but He was not universally admired. In fact, His words, deeds, and presence evoked bitter hostility. He predicted a time when people would turn from Him and against each other.

Are You the One or Do We Keep Looking?
Even the best of us doubt and get discouraged. “Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciple.“ -Matthew 11:2 John rotting away in a jail cell, not knowing the future. We know what would become of him. He could only imagine and suspect. That this would not end well. John in prison hears about the Ministry of the one whom he predicted and announced. It was Jesus, born of Mary, his cousin, baptized by his own hand. The man of mystery, the man of wonder, the man of hope, the man of righteousness was this Jesus.
