As the Day Ends As the Lord’s Day begins to settle into evening stillness, this Scripture from Matthew 21:22 invites us to pause and reflect on the way we have prayed today. Jesus’ words are simple, yet they hold a deep and searching truth: “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” For many of us, the end of the day brings an honest reckoning with the prayers we whispered—some confident, others weary, and some born out of pure desperation.

DID YOU KNOW Did You Know that idols have always promised more than they could ever deliver? Psalm 135 gives us an unvarnished look at the empty world of ancient idolatry. Craftsmen in Israel’s neighboring nations poured themselves into the creation of idols—fashioning silver and gold into images representing their gods. Priests would perform elaborate rituals, “inviting” the spirit of the deity to reside within the object.

On Second Thought The Lord’s Day always invites us to slow down, breathe deeply, and remember the God who sees us—fully, lovingly, and without illusion. It is a day when grace calls out to us, reminding us that we do not have to outrun the past or hide our failures behind hurried busyness. On this holy day, our hearts are asked to return to the One who already knows everything about us and still invites us near.

Thru the Bible in a Year On this Lord’s Day, as we continue our journey through Scripture, Paul invites us into some of the most practical and challenging teachings in 1 Corinthians 8–11. These chapters speak directly to the questions Christians still wrestle with: How do I honor Christ in my personal decisions? How do I use my freedom responsibly?

As the Day Ends There is a quiet gift God gives us at the close of each day—the chance to settle our minds, to sift through what has passed, and to place everything once again beneath His loving care. As this day draws to a close, Paul’s words in Colossians 3:2 offer us a gentle but steadying invitation: “Set your minds and keep them set on what is above.” In the Amplified translation, the emphasis is unmistakable.

Sometimes the dryness comes from busyness, sometimes from sorrow, sometimes from subtle spiritual drift. And sometimes it comes simply because we forget where the well is—and we try to dig our own. Today’s reflection begins in an unlikely place: the Woodingdean Water Well in the United Kingdom, the deepest hand-dug well in the world.

Every time I revisit this passage—Mark 14:32–42, echoed in Matthew and Luke—I feel as though I’m walking onto holy ground. Not only because this scene marks the beginning of Jesus’ final hours, but because it unveils His heart in a way Scripture rarely shows us elsewhere.

As the Day Begins Meditation Hebrews 5:11–14 offers us a sobering reminder that spiritual maturity is neither automatic nor accidental. The writer warns that some believers had “become dull of hearing.” The phrase suggests a gradual spiritual lethargy—a slow fading of sensitivity to God’s truth. Like muscles that weaken from disuse, the mind and heart grow spiritually sluggish when we stop practicing discernment.

As the Day Ends As this day draws gently to a close, Paul’s words in Philippians 4:8 offer us a place to rest our thoughts and steady our hearts: “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable… think about such things.” These words come from a man who understood hardship, confinement, and uncertainty.

The Catacombs of Paris are a somber reminder of human mortality—an underground labyrinth where six million Parisians rest in carefully arranged anonymity. Tourists step down a narrow spiral staircase and into dimly lit corridors lined with femurs and skulls, stacked with symmetry that feels both artistic and tragic.
