The CAR National TB Reference Laboratory took part in the WARIL annual meeting in Benin (8–10 Dec).
Discussions focused on lab accreditation challenges and GeneXpert cartridge management amid Global Fund funding cuts.
A key step for regional TB diagnostics.

CAMES 2026 workshop in Bangui: the University of Bangui and the Ministry of Higher Education strengthened researchers’ capacity on the 2024–2028 CAMES Evaluation Guide and the iCAMES platform, with input from CAMES experts.

IPB & @helmholtzhzi.bsky.social HIOH launch a One Health study in Bayanga on skin infections among communities in close contact with wildlife.
Lab work includes culturomics, detection of resistant strains and full-genome sequencing.
Further AMR and environmental studies are under discussion.

Prostate cancer is a silent emergency in CAR.
Between 2020–2025, IPB tested 4,985 men; 77% showed PSA ≥100 ng/ml — signs of advanced disease.
Limited specialists, no cancer center, strong taboos.
Early screening from age 45 is essential.

Recent defenses at the University of Bangui highlighted IPB's academic role. Many candidates had completed their internships within IPB laboratories, basing their work on IPB-generated data on AMR, paediatric infections, dyslipidaemia, dermatology, pathology and drug-resistant tuberculosis.

AMR goes far beyond antibiotics.
It affects bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites — a true One Health challenge.

A workshop in Bangui outlined the foundations of a national AMR surveillance network.
Next step: coordinated action to make it fully operational.

A 12-month collaboration between IPB & Belgian partners @itmantwerp.bsky.social, funded by the Gates Foundation, will modernize HAT surveillance using PCR, dry-sheet serology and real-time digital data collection.
Goal: establish a reliable epidemiological picture and strengthen national capacities.
