I must be firmly ensconced in a bubble because everywhere I look are developers and manufacturers pushing AI this or that, both in features and crass labeling, but haven't ever had an interaction with a fellow consumer who seemed to genuinely want it, let alone make purchasing decisions based on it.

This is so close to the truth but misses the mark. They're not clinging to their way of life, they're clinging to the fantasy of how they imagined life to have been before. They're not "stupid" in the sense of unable to process ideas, but they're happily deluded about the world.

Again, as the lights fade, I'd like to make my annual proposal that the Oscars should only consider movies that have been out for at least 2 years. Give it a chance to see how it holds up. Or at the very least, do a "shoulda won, now that we think about it" award for previous losing nominees.

I think if I were designing refrigerator software, I'd make it so every time you select "crushed" on the ice maker, it would go ahead and just schedule the appliance repair call.
