Outstanding work from my colleague Viraj Pandya looking at the 3D shapes of galaxies in the early universe. The implication is they don't form in isolation but feel the effects of the cosmic web around them. Viraj is talking about this at #AAS243 today www.nytimes.com/2024/01/05/s...
The Early Universe Was Bananas
Images from the Webb telescope suggest that newborn galaxies look weirder than expected. Exactly how screwy was physics at the dawn of time?

JWST results in the distant universe: galaxies in the early universe spend more time resting between star-formation episodes. This means something different is happening in how they form stars. Great work from NASA FINESST investigator Justin Cole at Texas A&M. arxiv.org/abs/2312.10152

Pedestrian deaths have increased says @nytimes.com, faster in the US than other countries, and mostly at night (specifically at dusk). I am a fan of using data to understand these kinds of thing. More data are needed here. In the meantime be safe! www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Happy to join bluesky. First post is to highlight excellent paper led by Dr. Lu Shen using JWST to understand how galaxy bulges form. Images show where stars form in galaxies (from their Hydrogen emission) compared to the galaxies themselves. arxiv.org/abs/2310.13745
